I really like these in camo patterns. I have actually done a few panels in vinyl and turned on a fellow club member to do the same. Its a great option. I would love to do something a bit JDM style. some crazy stripes and colors. I just cant think of anything on my VR car.

Its actually both easy and cheap. Enough Oracal, Arlon or 180C to do a whole car is $370 - $600.
The actual installation technique is very easy, but requires practice and a bit of a gung-ho attitude. Having played with the stuff myself, I can tell you that the $3k or more you are paying is for, as Easy put it: "what I know, not what I do".

The MM-mobile will be wrapped presently...

that doesnt sound outrageous.

$10k is pretty steep, like that matte black ferrari. $4k is a lot more reasonable.

you have to post pics pics MM, once your car is wrapped.

If you are crying about $4K, go kill yourself. Go ask a shop how much it cost to PAINT it matte black and then you'll cry like a little girl.

Not only that but the upkeep of a true matte finish is outrageous and your car value will take a major hit. I'll give everyone the heads up when my car is done.

And MM is right, it is indeed easy to wrap a car, but not easy to wrap it well. These guys can do designs, 2 tones, or a full wrap that will look like paint. There's nothing easy about it. (until you learn the technique of course then I'm sure it is easy for them, but that applies for everything from fabricating to tuning and painting..)

You said it is.

I said it wasn't. However like with ANYTHING it becomes more simple when you are well versed in it. If you are saying that you and I are saying the same thing then your post would be redundant.

Its in no way easy to do right (even more so on a car such as the RX8 with so many complex radius and curves) just because a guy has it as a career and he makes it seem easy makes it no less challenging than a Neurosurgeon who has been operating for decades and could operate with a butter knife and tweezers.

Hmm. Maybe you aren't reading what I wrote.

In any event, it is actually easy. Like most things automotive, once you really figure out how it works, you realize that most of the difficulty that seems inherent in any skill set is just smoke and mirrors to keep the layman out of the biz.

Of course, like anything physical, it requires that you have the basic talent to manipulate objects and material in space through paths that are not always obvious and that you have the patience to deal with repetitive, tedious tasks.

To each his own, but I've never understood that rationale. First it was "car bras", now the whole damned car? Why hide and preserve your perfect paint for the next guy? Me, I want to enjoy the perfect paint myself while it lasts, and the next guy can deal with the chips and dents however he likes; maybe get it vinyl-wrapped if he likes.

The vinyl does make sense to me, if you want a look that is difficult or impossible to produce with paint. The Matte black (What I'd call "true graphite") is one good example.

if you vinyl your car, you preserve the paint for yourself. its clear. you dont see it. so you get to enjoy your paint for far longer, because your paint stays (almost) perfect. the really nasty stones will tear small holes through the vinyl.

you can paint cars matte black. its just easier, and reversible, to use vinyl.

My paint gets absolutely clobbered. I repaint the entire front of the car twice a year. Its getting obnoxious.
Vinyl will simply allow me to repair the finish in a less labor-intensive manner and without all the hazards of spray.

I'm a big fan of vinyl wrapping. If I ever wanted to do something with my paint that was a little more "look at me," it'd be vinyl. Then you can really do whatever. It's not a full paint job and it doesn't have a full paint job price. You do whatever, enjoy it for X amount of time, and then take it off before you sell the car. It's tough to find a buyer for a car that has the "***** wagon" motif.

Also, my car is black and a black engine bay/door frames/etc will go fine with pretty much anything. Then again, I've yet to really spend any money on visual mods so I don't see much of anything for me in the future on this front.

yep. i drive 30 miles to school one way. so i put a lot of highway miles on my car. the stock bumper had a clearbra on it and it had 0 rock chips when i put my body kit on. i didnt have the cash flow (start of the semester) to clearbra my car right then when i got it. i should have. because i drove a semesters worth and the front of my car looked like ****. when i took my car in for someone hitting my rear bumper, the bodyshop filled all the paint chips pretty damn well. but i'll wait till next summer, get it repainted and then clearbra it immediately.

of course, i'd have to get a large roll of clearbra. not a precut kit. but it shouldnt be that much harder.

Clear bra is much more difficult to apply than vinyl - it is more than twice has thick.
Plus, you are applying it to the hardest part of the car to conform - the bumper.

that and it'a a clear substance that will show more errors in it's appliaction, than an opaque vinyl.

When will the Maniacmobile be complete?
