video: HOT LAP FUN 68mb

68MB streaming video - Anyone doing hotlaps would love to have a car that allows them to catch and pass others with virtual impunity.

You be the judge about what happens next, but it does seem the changes in the car and driver are working. Superb handling, great brakes, and new sticky Falken RT-615 tires rule!

This video starts several laps into the session. I was 1st pit-out and now I’ve caught up with the pack again from behind. Watch me mix it up with a BMW 3 series, a couple Porsche, Dodge Viper, Mazda Miata, and some others.

Enjoy and smile when you drive :D

That was really nice. What was the black car that passed on the last lap? Dang nice driving. The one thing that scares me about that track is the last turn coming out of the road race course onto the oval, in front of the stands, is a ominous blunt brick wall that is way to close to the track, especially when passing, yikes!

Thanks. I talked to the owner, not the driver of that car, a 968 Porsche that the guy had supercharged about 6psi. Said he had dynoed at 340 RWHP. I'm not sure if he came from pit-out or had just been working his way up from behind. I enjoyed that :D guy.

The pit-in wall? I think we'd agree - don't hit it !

But in practice the sideways force on your car is so strong here, you'd have a real tough time hitting that wall I think. To me those pylons were reassuring, and I actually never even thought about fear - so I just aimed for them!

Hey Spin,
Nice Vid. Obviously you know that track well. Thats a dangerous turn (after you crest that hill and sweeper to the left). i bet the car can get light there if you are not careful. All you non track guys--watch this drivers hands-- see how he smoothly feeds the wheel and how his wheel position doesnt change once he is into the turn.See how he uses the aprons. Hear how he is NOT jamming gears. Watch his lines through the turns vs others. Car is smooth and settled before he enters the turn. That was good driving man. Looks like a good course also. 3nd and some 4th gear track--right? Or do you drop to 2nd on that one 90?degree right turn? Top speed about 100-105- right?
One question-- I am thinking of getting the 615's but I wanted to ask someone about the sidewall stiffness. Is there good turn in with the 615's. It looks like they transition well?
again that was good driving--if you are ever down south look up the road atlanta gang--we would love to invite you to our track.
thanks

Thanks so much for the vid!!! I would absolutely love to do that some day. But for today I will live vicariously through your video. Loved it when you passed the Viper. Nice driving and thanks again.

This was my second day there this year. It's pretty short, so it gets burned in your branium quickly.

Interestingly, the other fellow there w/stock RX-8 said that same thing to me. Personally, I don't remember anything noticeable there. Must be the tires.

:o All I'll say is training was virtual with GT4 all last winter, a force feeback wheel, and 60" TV ... This was the license test....:D

2nd on the sharp right into the uphill. Everything else spot on.

Strange you should ask...on the street when I 1st got the Falkens, there was slightly less crisp feeling, which had me worried as they are 95 vs. 91 load cap. so should be stiffer sidewall. Also they were luxury comfortable compared to the bridgeSTONES, which I actually think are decent tires. But it's on the other end of the traction envelope the RT-615 behaves vastly differently. At the limit the bridgeSTONES would simply start to groan or just rub speed off wholesale, sometimes with all four going sideways.

The Falkens feel like you are literally stuck onto the ground, sort of like those little frogs w/suction feet. So it's soft and comfortable, and I have not discovered it's outer envelope characteristics. Further I'm feeling like I'll end up power limited in the end, so the CZ goes in next. With experience and those improvements I'd love to knock maybe 5-10 seconds off my lap time.

Love to try Road Atlanta one day...
Cheers :D

Excellent video. I think it grealy demonstrates how to drive this car on a track. You could tell that some of the other drivers out there were less sure of themselves than you were and it was cool that they waved you past.
I've never driven my car on a track but I plan to this year after going to driving school. This video is very useful to see how it's done right.
That black porsche at the end surprised me, lol. He came from out of nowhere.
