Turboed Feed Rx8 vs EG Civic
#26
even though the rx8 got it's handed handed to it by a civic, i feel better in knowing the 350z could barely stay on the road. i kinda wish the final was between the s2000 and the rx7.

hmmm, so let me get this straight, a 10+ year old model (development wise) which is over 400kg lighter yet only has 60 less hp, on a rainy road with fwd, beat a heavier car with less than 3 years in development and rwd? wow, what a shocker

EG's with motor swaps typically do well at road/ race events, time attack, expecially the bmi touge runs, there are so many tight turns and small roads, almost any civic with a properly tuned suspension, sticky tires with decent power 160whp should do farely well.

Besides, that Civic had a painted interior. That's good for 50WHP!!!!

OK.. did any notice that it was raining but the gurl on the mike was in a bikini. I think every good looking news reporter/TV show hostess should be in a bikini regardless.

Power, Weight, Suspension on all cars with enough time, technology and effort can be adjusted to extreme amounts. Holding all those constant between an FD and RX8 would make them equal yes?
no, because the RX-8 has a much, much better chasis than the FD. Very important in racing.
Granted my setup is completely hypothetical and to this day doesnt exist... you still can't disregard the RX8.
For Example,
just look at SCCA Autocrosses accross the nation.... RX-8s are faster on several occasions in B-Stock versus many FDs in Super Stock.

I traded in a 2002 Honda Civic Si with a modded CRV engine for my 8. In stock form the CRV engine puts out 160hp/162tq. So with a few bolt ons you can easily see how a swapped civic could out run us off the line. However top end will be a different story. I have never been big on track or street racing so the 8 is just my cup of tea. Not the fastest thing off the line but moves in and out of traffic like a dream. The only things I don't like about the 8 are the weak tranny's and lack of trunk space. I haven't had any problems with my 05 with approx. 2500 miles but the tranny thing kinda scares me a bit. I don't beat on my car so hopefully I won't have any problems.
Overall I think the 8 is a very good car.......chicks dig it too.

The traditional bolt ons (intake, headers, exhaust) on a stock civic motor will do virtually nothing.
In similar note, the other night a civic hatchback pulled on me and when he shifted threw a big puff of black smoke. I love N/A civic owners who take out their cats and think they have a beast. Just because you ran on me while i was driving my moms CRV at 20mph... does not mean you are fast.

And I agree, once the warantees begin to expire is when the RX-8 group should embrace the aftermarket. Right now, we're in a tough position with such a new niche car and such limited options. But even if you want to get away from the chassis, the Renesis, imo, is a definite improvemnt vs. the REW. The REW's adavantage may be the ability to take extreme levels of boost on the 9:1 rotors vs. our 10:1 - strictly speaking of running pump gas, not race gas or xylene etc...

Also, having so many FD enthusiasts still around has really helped me pesronally when building my 8. The knowledge they can provide is priceless. From my experience there are a lot of FD owners who's egos are too big to bother talking too, but for the most part... its been really positive and beneficial.
