Lets spend all this money on a custom widebody and then buy a cheap set of Rotas!

 I was just thinking the same thing, between that and going through all that work for a stock color this car just confuses me, oh well, to each their own I guess :dunno:

pdxhak 01-23-2011 01:41 PM

Too bad you lost the line that carried from the top of the front doors over the rear doors. Good luck with your build!

this is true, my car spent months without any wheels on it all so nevermind, I'm not as confused anymore lol :D:

hotdoghogie 01-23-2011 02:16 PM

Wow i think the front looks amazing! The rear is eh... Kinda like a chick with huge boobs and no booty to back it up.

terch1 01-23-2011 02:45 PM

Looks really good. I like seeing someone attempt a custom kit. Make sure to post pics of the final product!

Ross_Dawg 01-23-2011 03:18 PM

Looking good though, keep it going :icon_tup:

lepichichi 01-24-2011 12:38 PM

I can't wait to see the results :)

rotarenvy 01-24-2011 03:41 PM

I like it even though it erases some of the rx8's original styling lines.
looks like a bigger elise/exinge.

Dude --you are good. I think some people dont relaize what it takes to do this type of work/design etc?
Yes some rough edges like the door frame, but dang dude---serious wrench time here.
Questions---how do you support those front fenders, and what about up under the car--whats the plans there?
Have you had experience with wind tunnel studies? Seems to me you have?
What did you do about the windshield wipers? A single wipe would sure look sweet on that design.
You and Rote need to get together. Yall some talented dudes.

Hey, I LIKE silver!!

Thanks for the compliment. Yes the door line some people like it some don't maybe I will put them back in at a later date.
Fenders and the nose is one piece and attach to the same locations as stock, ( on the frame rails, and under the car). The body parts are completely flat under car to the existing body, so no air restrictions. Wipers will stay stock for now, but may look into that later. Now that you mentioned it my Lambo has the single wiper too.

I have ordered my 3 rotor engine and hope to start install June this year. I plan on doing some car shows prier to removing exsting engine. Looking to do a 400hp to 500hp set up.

What do you think of this hood design on my wide body?

As far as the wheels go I was lookling for that look, and they are not Rota (XXR 522 used on many race tuners) If you are concerned with weight im sure the 6lbs you lost with your wheels wont compensate for the 50+ I lost with fiberglass body. Maybe on the next one I build I will go with deep dish rim.

Thanks.

That a crazy systems in that car did you do the fiberglass work. (looks good). Is that a standered box in the back or a band pass?

pdxhak 01-25-2011 11:31 AM

It is going to take 2-3 people to remove the front because it is 1 piece. Hopefully you do not have to remove it often because it would suck if it cracked.

altspace 01-25-2011 11:37 AM

I think it would suck is any part of it cracked.

Props on the work. One of the better looking custom wide body designs, aside from the GRAND-AM style which is by far the best out there. Add some nice flush wheels and paint and you may have a killer 8.

Totalairsystems 01-25-2011 11:49 AM

Have not seen the grand-am style do you have pic. It dose take 2 to remove, but you should not have to remove it often. I cant remember the last time I removed my bumper of frenders on my other cars.

Yes that is a given.

I have removed my front bumper numerous times and others have as well. With you doing an engine swap you will need to test fit the front a few times and who know what else comes up down the road.

Good luck :) I'm looking forward to following your project.

Thanks, I along with about 5-6 close friends built my interior (and the rest of my car for that matter), my entire back seat area is a mix of fiberglass, mdf, and lexan. The enclosure is in the trunk and it is a sealed rotating "ball", it is designed to perfect spec in regards to air space and with it being perfectly round (or at least not having corners) it gives me optimal sound compared to "boxes" or square-ish shaped enclosures. There is a lot of fiberglass that went into my interior, door panels, kick panels, center console, rear deck/speaker area, inside of my trunk, trunk floor etc., I had dreams of resin and smelled like it for months leading up to Sema in 09 :D: So are those the wheels you're going with or are you using them for spacing/fitment etc.? Are you doing anything like a front tilt for the hood? I have several sets of hinges and have looked at doing mine but right now none of them seem really practical or functional so I'm holding off for now, may revisit when money and time are more in abundance lol

;) It looks stock, just slightly wider.

Sifu 01-25-2011 02:47 PM

Looks very interesting! I want to see the finished product :)

K.C.C. 01-26-2011 04:07 PM

Your 8 looks awesome. Please post finished photos here!

Polak Graphics 01-26-2011 04:26 PM

Looks good.

I know nothing about body work but it looks like it required a good amount of skill to get it where it is.
