Almost done, let me know what you think.

chino0314 01-22-2011 01:44 PM

need pic of the rear but the lines of the car so far remind me of a vette.... looks good...

phrenetiK 01-22-2011 01:48 PM

looks pretty good. space out the back wheels

Roidz 01-22-2011 05:21 PM

Huh...lookin forward to finished pics.

Totalairsystems 01-22-2011 06:07 PM

thanks looking to have it painted in the next two weeks. May concider making a mold for bodies. Rear has a center exhaust with air diffuser simular to f40, and not sure what the person means by it looks like a vette.

Looking in to engine swap maybe 18b or 20b

You're not going to get very far with that 18b swap.

Rotr8 01-22-2011 06:39 PM

Actually pretty decent job here OP. Usually the custom wide body's so far have been horrible. Looks very inspired by the Hennessey Venom IMO. I like it so far, and as others have said would like to see a full shot of the rear.

Edit- is there any rhyme or reason behind the side vents or just for show, Would like to also see some go to back up the show.

Mazurfer 01-22-2011 06:50 PM

Well if that doesn't move hot air out of the engine bay, then nothing will! (Of course this assumes they will be open to the bay)

I have to agree, I think from the windshield back, it looks like a vette, and from the windshield forward, well....I'm not sure........it seems to still look like an 8 with a hint of a "Z" or something.........am I way off?

Also, have to be honest, not thrilled about the top of the door and how it looks. Keep it going obviously, it ain't for me and when I see it done I may likey!

Ok back might look like a vette but the side looks like audi r8

DocBeech 01-22-2011 07:46 PM

its a start on the wide body idea, I know our bodies could stand to be a little wider if you want to use a wing set to 200+ mph :P

Totalairsystems 01-22-2011 07:49 PM

Thanks for the posts, the color will be stock 22v silver with black bottom lip. The rear is not complete yet but will post soon. Undecided on rear spoiler or not. Yes u are right a little of hennessey venom and lotus 300rr. I will be changing hood to inverted scoop on engine swap. I was also eliminating the rear half door like my sport cars two doors, but may make a body that will open rear later.

Totalairsystems 01-22-2011 07:50 PM

Yes I think the 3 rotor. Will be the way to go

DocBeech 01-22-2011 07:54 PM

If you have that kind of money I would love to know what the drag coeffecient is for this body design!

NErx8 01-22-2011 08:23 PM

Looks good so far

canaryrx8 01-22-2011 08:30 PM

all that work and you're doing a factory color? I'm not saying you need some crazy flaked out candy or anything, but silver sure seems kinda' boring to me. (just my opinion) Are these just mock up pics or? What suspension are you going with?

bumblebeerx8 01-22-2011 08:44 PM

not my style but this is one of the better attempts i have seen. Im also wondering why would would keep a oem color for a crazy kit like this.

Mazer 01-22-2011 08:47 PM

wow!! your going to need some better wheels and fresh coat of 3 stage paint!

Totalairsystems 01-22-2011 10:01 PM

Sorry I like the silver as you can see my othe car. Also added some pic for the person that said it looks like a mock up. I have lots of experience with cars I recently installed a Duramax Diesel in my H2 400 hp getting 28 mpg.
They said that would be 50,000.00 I did it for 11,000.00
Also added some pic of a Arial Atom I have built.

Thanks For the post I like the feed back.
I am the real thing!

DocBeech 01-22-2011 10:09 PM

Your other car just so happens to be a Lamborghini Diablo Roadster :P

rev8 01-22-2011 10:13 PM

is your atom the honda or chevy motor?

Totalairsystems 01-22-2011 10:18 PM

Yes chevy cobalt supercharged

Totalairsystems 01-22-2011 10:20 PM

Chevy cobalt supercharged, yes it's a 99 roadster silver I know plain

Mazurfer 01-23-2011 08:04 AM

^..............and you might run up against the Silver curse.
Better check that out first before deciding! :scared:

TopGear8 01-23-2011 12:35 PM

Lets spend all this money on a custom widebody and then buy a cheap set of Rotas!

 I was just thinking the same thing, between that and going through all that work for a stock color this car just confuses me, oh well, to each their own I guess :dunno:

pdxhak 01-23-2011 01:41 PM

Too bad you lost the line that carried from the top of the front doors over the rear doors. Good luck with your build!

this is true, my car spent months without any wheels on it all so nevermind, I'm not as confused anymore lol :D:

hotdoghogie 01-23-2011 02:16 PM

Wow i think the front looks amazing! The rear is eh... Kinda like a chick with huge boobs and no booty to back it up.

terch1 01-23-2011 02:45 PM

Looks really good. I like seeing someone attempt a custom kit. Make sure to post pics of the final product!

Ross_Dawg 01-23-2011 03:18 PM

Looking good though, keep it going :icon_tup:

lepichichi 01-24-2011 12:38 PM

I can't wait to see the results :)

rotarenvy 01-24-2011 03:41 PM

I like it even though it erases some of the rx8's original styling lines.
looks like a bigger elise/exinge.

olddragger 01-24-2011 04:04 PM

Dude --you are good. I think some people dont relaize what it takes to do this type of work/design etc?
Yes some rough edges like the door frame, but dang dude---serious wrench time here.
Questions---how do you support those front fenders, and what about up under the car--whats the plans there?
Have you had experience with wind tunnel studies? Seems to me you have?
What did you do about the windshield wipers? A single wipe would sure look sweet on that design.
You and Rote need to get together. Yall some talented dudes.

Hey, I LIKE silver!!

Thanks for the compliment. Yes the door line some people like it some don't maybe I will put them back in at a later date.
Fenders and the nose is one piece and attach to the same locations as stock, ( on the frame rails, and under the car). The body parts are completely flat under car to the existing body, so no air restrictions. Wipers will stay stock for now, but may look into that later. Now that you mentioned it my Lambo has the single wiper too.

I have ordered my 3 rotor engine and hope to start install June this year. I plan on doing some car shows prier to removing exsting engine. Looking to do a 400hp to 500hp set up.

As far as the wheels go I was lookling for that look, and they are not Rota (XXR 522 used on many race tuners) If you are concerned with weight im sure the 6lbs you lost with your wheels wont compensate for the 50+ I lost with fiberglass body. Maybe on the next one I build I will go with deep dish rim.

Thanks.

That a crazy systems in that car did you do the fiberglass work. (looks good). Is that a standered box in the back or a band pass?

pdxhak 01-25-2011 11:31 AM

It is going to take 2-3 people to remove the front because it is 1 piece. Hopefully you do not have to remove it often because it would suck if it cracked.

altspace 01-25-2011 11:37 AM

I think it would suck is any part of it cracked.

Props on the work. One of the better looking custom wide body designs, aside from the GRAND-AM style which is by far the best out there. Add some nice flush wheels and paint and you may have a killer 8.

Totalairsystems 01-25-2011 11:49 AM

Have not seen the grand-am style do you have pic. It dose take 2 to remove, but you should not have to remove it often. I cant remember the last time I removed my bumper of frenders on my other cars.

Yes that is a given.

I have removed my front bumper numerous times and others have as well. With you doing an engine swap you will need to test fit the front a few times and who know what else comes up down the road.

Good luck :) I'm looking forward to following your project.

Thanks, I along with about 5-6 close friends built my interior (and the rest of my car for that matter), my entire back seat area is a mix of fiberglass, mdf, and lexan. The enclosure is in the trunk and it is a sealed rotating "ball", it is designed to perfect spec in regards to air space and with it being perfectly round (or at least not having corners) it gives me optimal sound compared to "boxes" or square-ish shaped enclosures. There is a lot of fiberglass that went into my interior, door panels, kick panels, center console, rear deck/speaker area, inside of my trunk, trunk floor etc., I had dreams of resin and smelled like it for months leading up to Sema in 09 :D: So are those the wheels you're going with or are you using them for spacing/fitment etc.? Are you doing anything like a front tilt for the hood? I have several sets of hinges and have looked at doing mine but right now none of them seem really practical or functional so I'm holding off for now, may revisit when money and time are more in abundance lol

;) It looks stock, just slightly wider.

Sifu 01-25-2011 02:47 PM

Looks very interesting! I want to see the finished product :)

K.C.C. 01-26-2011 04:07 PM

Your 8 looks awesome. Please post finished photos here!

Polak Graphics 01-26-2011 04:26 PM

Looks good.

I know nothing about body work but it looks like it required a good amount of skill to get it where it is.
