I don't really like the look either. Looks tacky/cheap.

my son said to cut flames in the quarter end louvers
I thought that would look cheap.
I could be wrong.

these would be out of aluminum.

however they could be painted or anodized

carbon fiber would kick the price up to much

I could try it...

any other ideas?
I'm looking to manufacture these.
other replies have been positive I thought I'd try this group out
first before I spent the money on tooling.

and they sold very well.

yes they have had louvre designs throughout the years!! as a matter of fact it is hard for me to picture a 1st gen 7 without them!! I actually thought about this a few months ago (not actually making them, but just that they used to have them) if they could somehow be updated for today- these could be a very cool thing- what if you made them of plexi-glass or some kind of transparent material that is able to be colored? I really think you might be on to something!- it all comes down to the design (the holes cut into it- maybe bring the rotor shape back in or something- or make them somewhat wavey to mimic the concave roof)- anodized might look quite cool as well-I will think about it over the weekend- I think one of the main weaknesses of the design of this car is that back window- this might somehow be a cure- sorry for the rambling

excellent response.

not rambling at all.

I had a very similar response the the first mustang louver posts and I had to completely retool just to keep up with orders.

anyone know how much space is between the trunk and the rear glass with the trunk open?

and how far up it goes on the glass?

strictly out of memory- the top of the trunk when opened is a perfect 90 degree angle to the ground

Hmmmmm.....
I appreciate anybody taking time to make new things-thanks,man.
However,not to my taste,too,um,er.....80's.....
However,this opens a new door-
What CAN be done to cover/accentuate the 8's rear window?"
I could see a new,ultralight 'louver' that's one piece,wrap-around,
custom molded carbon fiber-
Aluminum,I think,is a past-tense medium for the 8's louvers,if there are to be any.

I'm guessing you must be over 45 years old. Louvers were in fashion in the eighties. But I'd cry if you put them on the 8.

Louvers went well with my 81 RX7, because it was a hatchback, specially when I had them painted to match the body color. They just don't look right on the 8. They look like they would be annoying looking in the rear-view mirror. The openings are rather small.

I stopped designing louvers around 1987 and we were selling around 100,000 units per year.

the louvers seemed to stop after I quit developing new ones
I just thought it would be nice to bring them back..

So far the new Mustang louvers have become a very good deisgn.
I thought I'd work on other vehicles also.

the styling hues of the RX8 are awsome

that is why I picked it. Even thought the production numbers are lower than what I think they could be.

aluminum louvers have a great advantage to plastic ones.
the visibility is quite negligible. Just the thickness of the metal except for at the sides.

Why don't you start a poll and see how many would install louvers on their 8. You'd have a good indication whether it is a viable project.
I wouldn't but I commend your initiative nevertherless.
