Smile rate my clutch! (and a question)

sorry, couldn't resist copying the other thread...
Anyways, I recently had my clutch replaced by the mazda dealer because it was slipping pretty bad, and I figured I'd take a pic and see if someone who knows more about this kind of thing could tell me how bad this is. I also swapped out my spark plugs for new ones and took a pic of how gunked up they were. I also have a question, but it can wait until after the pictures.

and a gunked up plug

now my question..
I got my clutch done right before an extreme cold snap went through the province (I'm talking -35, -47 degrees Celsuis with the windchill), and when I go to start the car in the morning, it starts great (thanks to the upgraded starter) but when I go to let off the clutch to let the car idle and warm up, she car will stall. however, if I drive the car around the block and let off the clutch it'll idle just fine.
so I took the car back to Mazda, and they said they could not duplicate the problem (it only does this after sitting all night), so I let them keep it over night, and they still said that when the car started and they let off the clutch it would just be fine. So I took my car back home and it has done this to me every morning since I've gotten it back. (like 2 weeks maybe?) so I'm always driving my car around the block when I start it, but it's burning the clutch because it's idling so high (I would freeze to death if I sat in the car long enough for it to warm up enough to drive it when warm)

so, now, with all the background info, does anybody have any idea what the problem may be with my new clutch, and what to say to the dealer to get them to deal with this, because I can't do this all winter... I'll need a new clutch by spring in that case..

I dont know for sure but it sounds like you may need to adjust the clutch? My cars clutch is worn pretty bad, but it only pulls the rpm down a little bit when i let off on a cold morning(20-35F). I like the picture of the clutch disc. I wonder if it got a bit hot. Good luck getting the dealer to fix the problem. Is it possible the tech working on the car left it in his bay and started it in the morning? The only advice i can give you is give the service advisor as much information as you can so the tech can duplicate the conditions as closely as possible. good luck

What have you got in the tranny for oil?

If it is real cold (like -30 ) when it is in neutral and cold it is turning the tranny gears.......the transmission will be very cold and put a lot of stress on the engine when that cold.

With your foot on the clutch...the transmission gears aren't turning.

If they had it in the shop when they tested it it might not have been cold enough.

I grew up in PA...and I remember a lot of times when it was 40+ below the car would start...but you couldn't drive because the tranny and diff were so cold they wouldn't turn
