Your mirrors look great, but the real reason I'm posting is to tell you your ride height is AWESOME. Good job, great car!

Well...you guys are not as quick as I thought you would be.
Hey - give some of us credit! I knew it the second I looked at it. I grew up in an FC!

I have to say, they look nice, but they don't compliment the body very well. If you look at the body of the 8, it always looks like its in motion, or at least trying to slice through the air. Everything is very rounded, low, smooth, and the lines of car make it look like it's being bent backwards by the wind. The stock mirrors fit this look. They stick out very little, are angled backwards (more 'bending in the wind' effect), and look as if they're trying to hide - like how a cat flatens its ears on its head when it's getting ready to pounce.

The FC mirrors look like they're there to fight the wind. They stick out more, they have upper and lower supports to withstand the extra wind resistance, and a hole that just screams "GO THE F**K AROUND ME, WIND!" Doesn't seem to fit the rest of the car; it's like a Miata with a battering ram.

...but that's just me - maybe it needs a little more agression in it's look.

EDIT:

Oh yeah - one question for you:
Is visibility any better with the FC mirrors? I recall having phenomenal visibility in my FC as compared to my FD. The 8's definately better than the FD, but it's been so long since I driven a 2nd gen I don't know how they stack up to an 8's.

I just came to say that I think that TN plate is pretty sweet. Maryland's is still the best but your's is quite attractive.

The mirrors are nice too.

Sit too high? Tilt upwards?

They sit at the same place, if not lower than, the stock mirrors. The bottom of the mirror is perfectly level to the ground.

IF you're looking at my sig, those are DIFFERENT MIRRORS, that I tried for a few days and didn't like. They DID tilt up too far and sit too high.

I think it's exactly the opposite. The stock rx8 mirror was flat faced and looked to me like a wall just sitting there. Whereas one look at the rx-7 aero mirror makes you think the air would just flow around it...look at it, the whole thing is rounded. It's almost semi-spherical. I kinda would agree that they are slightly too round for a car that uses a lot of sharp lines like the rx-8, but it's still better than stock in my mind.

I actually thought the rx8 mirrors had a significant blind spot, especially on the passenger side. The mirror was 'chopped off" at the lower outside corner. IN contrast, the FC mirror is widest at this point, so I feel like visibility (for me) is improved slightly. Plus, I have been driving FC's for years, so I am totally accustomed to driving with the field of visibility they offer.

I did have to adjust the passenger mirror significantly to get the proper angle...it is adjusted almost all the way in. You can tell these mirrors were not meant for the rx-8 in that regard, but I have been able to adjust both of them for my driving position. Drivers who sit up on top of the steering wheel might not be able to get proper adjustment out of these mirrors, though.

Definitely a set of springs...I feel that the stock skyjacker suspension is the worst attribute of the car. It makes it look like an AMC eagle in stock form.

Then move to the front lip and sideskirts.

i think it's just that the mirrors stick too far out, rather than round off more to the body of the 8. but it works.

Nice mirrors, nice ride height.

But what happened to your hood or bumper?
The seams look really uneven and wide.

See post 16 above, or I will quote it here since apparently no one reads the body of threads on this forum.

Did you get hit on the bumper or something cuz there's a huge gap between your bumper and hood.
Yup, the car has been lightly wrecked in the front before, but for what I paid for the car, I can deal with an extra 1/8" gap.

These mirrors do not stick out more than stock 8 mirrors.

Just for kicks I measured both. The rx-8 mirror is actually 2-3 inches wider than the FC aero mirror. However, the FC mirror basically sticks straight out, while the 8 mirror is slanted back quite a bit more. With both mounted on the car, they stick out almost the same...in fact the FC mirror sticks out about 1/2-1" LESS than the stock 8 mirrors.

And how you can say that these round aero mirrors are not as round as the stock flat 8 mirrors is a mystery to me.

No car or mirror from 1989 will have heated mirrors, I can assure you.

Sorry for this resurrection...

Any chance you can post up a new pic? The links seem to have been broken and I have been really curious on doing this to my 40. Thanks!

Also, i sit rather close.. at a 80-85 degree angle and i am 5 10... i guess, if you put your seat at 80-85 degrees, the bolster to your left for your shoulder, arm, side of body whatever it is, it looks flush with the frame of door, where the rear door ends. That was a terrible explanation, ill take a pic and maybe could you tell me if they would work?

They are power mirrors too correct? With correct wiring i could get them to move like the stocks?

Sorry for the questions, last one i promise... Now that you have had that setup for a while, do you still like it as much?

Thanks.

Wow, a 4 year resurrection, congrats.

I sold the car earlier this spring with the stock mirrors on it, and then sold the FC mirrors on ebay, but I kept them on the car the entire time I owned it and I loved them. I personally felt the visibility was better, but the angles were not quite perfect. As for the rest, you'll just have to try a set and see what you think. If you don't like them, you can always resell them for the same amount you pay, and put your stockers back on, having lost nothing but your time. The 89-91 rx-7 aero mirrors sell pretty easily, because the 86-88 rx-7 owners are always wanting to upgrade.

Here are a few pics of the car at it's nicest a few months before I sold it. Hopefully this is enough to show you what you need to see.
