Oil Cooler Grill

here's a couple of pix I took....lighting was not so great.....of the oil cooler grills I put in over the weekend...nothing fancy about them...more practical and protective than elegant....easiest thing about them was I cut them out and just fit them in without taking the bumper off....

They actually look pretty good. Are they attached with anything or are they just sitting in there?

Actually, they are just sitting inside....I cut them so they would fit tight.....they havent budged yet under extreme speeds I might add....
bought the stuff at home depot....a roll of it.....a really cheap but effective mod

I just got the material myself last weekend but, didn't really want to remove the bumper to do the install. Cool idea! I may have to try this out. Thanks!

the roll I got was called " 1/4in hardware cloth" and I cut it on an angle so when installed it had the diamond look instead of squares....I rolled it slightly to fit in and then pushed it to flatten....I made a small cut out to fit around the fog light...

Nice! Hopefully I'll do this mod soon, I hope...I'm a little worried I'll do something stupid.

Note: If one day I want to install the factory fog lights...will oil cooler grills cause a problem, the home made version I mean?

I could paint them if I want to....they are easy to take out since they arent really fastened with anything...as far as the fog lights are concerned....not really sure about that but if you dont fasten them you should be able to take them out, install the fog lights then make some cuts on the grills to refit....or you could actually cut new ones....the stuff is really cheap...you could make new ones every year for the life of the car with the same roll..

I kind of like it as is unpainted. What do you plan on doing for the AC condenser?

Nope. You can actually install them right up against the oil cooler/between it and the rubber boot. This keeps them completely out of the way of the foglights. It's what I did on mine :D :

that looks really sweet.......all three matching....what type of material did you use?
I would definitely be up for doing that if I had the where-with-all to take off the bumper, etc....you did a great job!!!

Take yourself down to a Lowe's/Home Depot-type store. The material is expanded steel that comes in the form of a screen door protector for pets and kids. This is a $20 job. Took me about two hours total. Taking off the front isn't that difficult; do a search for instructions. I did this mod a year ago, and felt I needed to repaint it due to the poor coverage of the factory paint. Little darker now. VERY happy with it all and all!

I have seen this done with the fine mesh screen, and it eventually rusts. Then it looks really bad. Taking the nose off is not that hard, especially if you don't have the fog lights.

The second one, maddash's, looks like the holes in the mesh are so big that it will not stop much from getting to the screens. Just an observation. Both look well done though.

I agree; too large of holes. More look than function. That's all I was really going for, anyways. :D
