Thanks, that's a lot of what I was going for. I'm working on another crop that is going to be a LOT more similar to them than this is. To be quite honest, this is actually a lot more than what I was going for. Like the Infiniti ads I initially wanted just the top highlights nothing more, nothing less. I only got to use that studio once so I figured I'd make the most of it. Too bad I didn't have more time to do more shots.

The car is not cut out and dropped in to black. I set up curtain walls and blacked out the studio and then lit only what I wanted to see. Hence why there is not a lot of light on the sides, front and rear.

I didn't want to see the sides, or I would have lit it completely differently.

Ok, so I know it's been a while but here is another edit I've been working on. Truthfully, this was my original idea and I feel I definitely acheived what I wanted. As for the first shot on this thread, I was merely trying to get a feel from what people thought since I had more information in some of my images than I thought. Hence, the wheels don't look the best they could since I never planned to shoot them anyways. Hope you like it.

I think the key to pictures like this is to bring the beautiful shapes forward and let the rest be dark, and I think the later shots did that better, nice work.

Yeah, you can. It's a bit more difficult due to lack of full control and a flying flat works wonders on cars to add a gradient effect. But, if you look at my website the shot of the Corvette Tail was done in a parking garage with a lot of post production. To get a studio effect you have to be able to control what the car sees aka reflects. Get it into a dark space that doesn't have a lot of objects reflecting in the car and then darken the surroundings in post. It's not too difficult. If you have any questions ever, hit me up.


Thanks! I drive a VR but, for some reason I love changing the hue to the more crimson color haha. Rarity maybe? Who knows.

Love the white one! That slight angle with the crack down the middle, keeps my eye just moving all around the image. Great work! I wanted a white pearl so bad but couldn't find one. They just photograph so so well. I do also really like the location of the top image too.

i really want to learn how to properly shoot cars one of these days, its funny how most of my car photography knowledge comes from working in 3d haha

I unfortunately do not work at the studio anymore. I was doing an internship with Trevor Pearson Productions. He is AMAZING at lighting and conceptual imaging. I learned a lot working with him!

But, that is how I was able to shoot in a studio. I'm super bummed I only got to do once and yet I still feel fortunate enough to have done it at least once.
