New to forum, just got a '06 Sunlight Silver
Hello guys,
I just purchased a '06 last week. It is fully spec'd, Sunlight Silver w/ ~40,000km on the odometer. It has been great except for that red "KEY" light on my dash and the car does not detect the presence of my smart key. But I am still very delighted with the purchase. Here's some pics.

Yes, welcome and congrats! i also have an '06 Sunlight Silver. But what's with the Smart Key issues? Did you buy it directly from the previous owner? You didn't use the smart key when you test drove it?
Thanks for the warm welcome, y'all.
It is manual.
I bought it from a used car dealer, the red "key" light didn't come two days after I purchased the car. I can still start the engine without the key when I am inside the car. I read somewhere if one of the exterior sensors fail, the entire system would stop detecting key presence on the outside. Now I just have to find a way to figure out which one of the three exterior sensors is bad and replace it.

I'm not sure how 40km converts to miles or even what canadian mileage the warranty is under, BUT... Depending on when that car was first sold, it could still, and very likely is, under warranty.
The mazdausa website can VIN check for you, I would think the Canadian site can do the same.
If it is under warranty, I'd take it to a Mazda dealer. If not, I would take it to the dealer you bought it to. While they aren't required to fix it, I've had Used car dealers fix small issues shortly after my purchase, one time being a gas leak from the fuel filter, which required towing etc, and they paid for the tow, and fixed it (hose...).
Also, search around here for smart key issues, cause I recall seeing something similar before.
Lastly, gratz on purchase, welcome to the addiction, and Good Luck.
