Well, I guess 8's depreciate dramatically. Lots are full of 'em. Not bad for somebody looking for a nice 1st ride. If you were REAL men/women, you'd get a 7. That way you could work on it more than you drive. Pffft, everybody knows that's way cooler.

Hey Bud, congrats I wish I could have been as lucky as you when I was 16!!!

Let me just add my two cents here.

My first car was a 1992 Honda Civic, five years old. It was a good car and my parents helped me purchase it and I didn't get it until I was nearly 18. Total cost of the car was $5000. Some of you are paying that for insurance for a single year. WOW.

An 8 as a first car is really almost too nice. If you bought it yourself, be proud that you were able to afford it on your own. But for my kids, there's no way in hell they're getting a sports car if I'm helping out with the purchase. The temptation to drive fast is really high when you're in HS (heck, it's high at age 29 with this car).

So let me tell you a story of a kid in my high school named Jake whose parents were filthy rich. For his 16th birthday, he got a slightly used Porsche 911. Bright red. It was gorgeous.

He got sick of it after a year and traded it in for a brand new Hummer (H1). It was a cream color and it was maybe 1/10 as cool as the 911. It led to all sorts of buffoonery. And one day he decided to try to drive it through a lake.

It got stuck in the lake. And it was basically ruined.

So then his parents, I assume, cut back on the money they were giving him, and his car for his senior year of high school was a used Dodge Ram. I think that was punishment enough... going from a Porsche 911 to a used pickup! Hah!

So unless you 8 owners want to end up driving a beater pickup truck, remember to treat your car with the respect it deserves. :)
