How much is insurance? Must be at least $2000/year.....

Try $4700 a year. I also have 15% off for driver's ed and good grades. My record is 100% clean. No speeding tickets, wrecks, nothing and it is $4700. Then, my dad started searching around for other insurance companies, and they told him that the RX8 was either too problematic to insure or was too expensive when damaged to insure. He did not find that too comforting and neither did I.

Ouch, and here I am bitching about my insurance company jacking my rate up $100 to $417/6 mo, because of a minor accident a yr ago and a speeding ticket almost 3 yrs ago...and at 16, I didn't even have a driver liscense :(

Welcome to the community, enjoy your ride and drive careful.

DrewMan 05-31-2007 11:26 PM

Great purchase and welcome to the club!

My first car was a 1990 honda accord! It was definatey an A to B car!

As much as your friends try/want you to go fast, dont! Resist the temptation!

If you just cant resist, take it to the track and hammer it there

At least its in a controlled environment and that little 1% "around the bend" factor dissapears.

You could be the best driver in the world and all it takes is a dumb idiot to cross your path and bang!

Enjoy the car and mod it! Im still stuck on the bug!

try too many people in your age range crash them. Everytime someone is an idiot, that entire car make gets higher premiums. The EVO and SRT-4 have huge rates but not because of parts cost, or even their speed, but the actual percent crashed.

scremn8 06-01-2007 07:10 AM

good car good choice. and drive safe, that part can never be said too much.

got my first car in 1979, it was a 67 cougar with a 351 cleveland engine.

$4700/year!?!?! Yikes. That is about $12.87/day.

Damn. Gotta pay to play. Just stay out of trouble......but still enjoy driving....is that possible?

So far for me it's working out. :)

Man... Feel better about my insurance now. Don't get a ticket! My first car was a 93 Mazda MX-6 LS... Wish I still had it :/

RshnRoket 06-01-2007 10:58 AM

Great looking car. Love the dark colors (green and black) on the RX8s!

rowteree 06-01-2007 02:33 PM

wow, i never really realized how many young people are on this board, i too received this car as a gift from my father when i was 16. I'm 19 now, and i still don't understand how a kid of 16 can afford a car like this, brand new or even used. Whatever the situation is congrats and take care of it.

NoTears316 06-01-2007 04:09 PM

$4700 a year is just insane.

I'll be paying about that much with a clean record. It's kind of funny when you see that as cheap, but that kind of rate is pretty common in the northeastern US.

My neighbour happens to be an underwriter for an insurance company. He said if you'll been with the company for a while, they don't even check your record, so you could have a ridiculous ticket without them knowing...well, as long as you don't have an adjustable claim. They never knew about my ticket until I had that claim.

I'm not telling you to speed just because you've been with the company for a while, just something to keep in mind if you when you file a claim. Of course, it could be different in different state too.

Congratulations on the car, bro, from a fellow 16 year old. I just got my 8 three weeks ago.

ocrapitzleon 11-11-2007 03:08 PM

congrats on your car!
i absolutely know how you feel
i got mine new last year when i turned 16
i still remember the feeling of (going to your garage every 5 minutes just to remind yourself "hey you got your own car now")
time to become a victim of Crazy for Mods
and hope you have good grades like i did. helps with a couple hundred on the insurance bill.
also be aware of becoming a "chick magnet (++ if youre a good looking fella)", lots of cars on the road want to race you, and yes you turn heads.

GOOD LUCK! HAVE FUN :)

Razz1 11-11-2007 03:10 PM

Welcome.

But 4700 a year?

You can buy a lot of used cars for that money.

jmsinclair 11-11-2007 06:12 PM

This car, like many will KILL you if you dick around. Don't mess with it. You have a hot car, that means you DON'T need to speed to get the chicks. Why speed?-- people want to see it.

:)

Cheers
