I think they're just joking around -- many RX-8 drivers are purists about the looks of the car. They dislike really major, gaudy cosmetic changes like large stickers.

i like more japanes style they are very technical.

We also can't neglect that turning the wheel any amount will cause it to chew through the fender.

 

The steering wheel is on the right side, so it's not the US version, though I don't know if their gas cap is on the same side as ours...?
