i dont see why so many people are quick to start bashing this kid, i'm here laughing at those who spent over $100 on some pipe and a filter themselves, when it might have netted a peak 10-15 HP.. yeah i know these arent cheap cars, or have 30 manufacturers make their "me too" intake kits and other parts, but damn, $300+ for intakes, $800+ for exhausts, and youre not getting much more than asthetics and sound?? i'd think the laugh is on you.

maybe its from close to 10 yrs of wholesale work in car audio and performance parts, but personally, i dont see the point in some of the outrageous pricing for whats out there for our RX8's.. i'd rather fab it than pay out the *** for it.

True, but since you worked in the audio field... would you say that all stereo equipment is all the same?
Would you say that a Wal-mart discount car deck would outlast, put out as much amps, and play as nicely as say a quality Kenwood, Pioneer, and etc.. brands??

Other than that.. WE ARE NOT BASHING HIM.. Even he said so himself that he just did this for kicks before he gets his future mods going.
Although I do see your view as it can seem like we are hating on his mod... you have got to remember this is the web.. Not everyone is going to like you, your setup, or your etc.. Just remember he posted it we are sharing opinions..

Have a nice day

I will agree, not all brands are of the same quality... but when a shop in the 90s could sell Clif Designs along side JL Audio, MB Quart, and Polk for very high price points, when in fact it is a cheapo lineup being sold as an entry level in the 2000's, its all about setting the market for the product. I about **** when i found out how cheap it really was. If it dont make dollars it dont make sense. :D

I cant have a nice day. I got 2" of snow on the way to work with worn out Kumho SPT's and a state full of crotchety old drivers to share it with LOL

i'll give it a try tho :D

Cheers

i definitely agree but i wasn't so sure about what made my hks intake so much more special than any other companies intake. seriously i payed 490 bucks for a metal tube and a foam circle thing with chicken wire inside it.

I'm not saying i regret it because it does make the car sound beautiful but....i just wonder if i had gone to home depot and got a thick metal tube myself and myself a intake that was just as good. what makes intakes like HKS so special that it needs a 490 dollar price tag?

HKS is etched on it. lol jk

As this dude posted in his first post, that with a single filter his car sputtered and almost stalls.. So??
As for the HKS intake when you installed it did it sputter or cause anything to go wrong. Most likely not.
Soooo, that means tehy most likely did a little tuning on pipe legth, diameter, the unique heat shield, and fro paying for JDM craftsmanship.
THey also have to make money some how. HKS for sure also came with a warranty. I mean if it rusted and fell apart I'm sure they will help you out.. Big companies can offer such things, but have to cover there own asses.. Hence the pretty price tag.
Business is still business

I don't understand how this would help...the flow rate through the intake tubing would remain the same, and all the second filter would do is split the flow rate in half between each filter. Also where the T is it would actually not help the flow bc it cannot navigate a turn like that easily. The only real way to help would be to make a cone on the inlet to help reduce minor losses, and that was already in the stock air box behind the filter.

this makes sence...because i did notice that the diameter of each side of the intake was different. It did seem to have very good craftmanship....i guess i paid lots of money for a name =(

lol its alright...it sounds great =)))))

Great thread. But lets all ask some questions that could possibly help him out.

Is this his first rotary?

What car did he have before this?

I remember I had a Honda Prelude and bolt-ons actually DID something! Maybe he prays for that rotary vTaK feeling. Sigh...I'm gonna log onto Honda-Tech again for fun.
