Newroe, the factory intake, and many other systems on the RX-8, are very well designed pieces and before you start wasting your money on mods that don't work it is best to understand why the factory designed something as they have in the first place. In this case, intakes are of little/no value because they have few regulatory restrictions in their design. For new people we usually suggest a driving course so you can learn what the full potential of the car is before you run the risk of making something worse with poorly chosen mods.

We're all just lookin' out for ya.

Anyone ever tried porting cold air from their A/C to the intake?

I'm just curious :D

The A/C system can't transfer enough BTUs of heat to make a difference.

Dude! It really works! Trust me, I tried it. I have a PVC pipe coming out of my wheel well, into my window, and sits in front of my AC vents. It's an instant +50whp gain, I SWEAR! I'll even post a DIY on it if there are enough requests!!!

ehh.. HKS made a similar intake for the Supra.. though the joints were 'Y' shaped coming together instead of a 90 degree join... If he doesn't get a CEL, or can dyno same if no better numbers with a different intake sound. It looks like a solid mod, once changing to a heat resistant PCV. Caution though if it's under Warranty, or atleast bring a camera to get the look on the Service Techs face when he pops the hood

Nobody is saying that he CANNOT do such mods. We are just trying to guide him to the more SENSIBLE ones, and not from a style perspective but from an engineering perspective. Is the point here to put a finer point on what Mazda already started or to ruin it all, completely? If the OP wasn't looking for input from all perspectives why did he post his pix in the first place? So we can all discuss it, that's why. The last thing I would want from my friends on this forum were I to ask for their input is a lot of smoke about whether or not what I am doing is viable and tasteful.

I understood that. Although there are a lot of sarcastic and cynical people on this forum, once you get to know them and make your way through the "hazing ritual" you are then "in". That was mentioned a few posts back. My approach was to lay the foundation for future mod considerations by teaching a thing or two from the "inside". I worked in the OEM for 8 years, and I am now a forum vendor(full-time) so I know a bit about how all this works from both the OEM and aftermarket perspectives. I am always glad to illuminate things for others on a lot of issues.

Just to see a pic of your car with PVC wrapped around it . . . . .

I am requesting it.

new: You should really take up Chrism's invitation. There are a ton of great people on this forum and he's definitely one of them. Take advantage of your local members, they definitely come in handy. (many have helped me with my mod installations)

You get points for creativity but PVC definitely isn't a material you ever want to use on an RX-8. Glad to hear you reverted back to stock and modified it with the K&N.

One last thing: great job on taking all the comments. Most new people resort to arguing childishly, dropping F bombs, etc. You took it all in stride. Welcome!

OP: Dude welcome to the forums im fairly new myself as well and I once owned a 06 scion tc too...but im glad i traded it in for the 8 especially after seeing how the community is and how informative it can be once you past the hazing n mocking.

like i said i appreciate the concept and the attempt. It is just funny some of the peoples comments/views. But as stated there is always hazing around here just gotta be able to have thick skin and just try to learn as much as possible and ask intelligent questions because there are really cool people here and allot of people that do know allot.

Finally I agree W/jedi chris is great peoples he is deff fam...he deff has taught me allot and guides me as much as possible when it comes to the 8.

So hopefully next week is it is nice on tuesday you'll come out n chill meet some of us first hand.
