My new tails

I know that the tails on the 8 are distinct, but they arent for me. I had altezza lights on an s-10 in high school, and have since grown out of that. Ive had tinted tails on almost everything I owned, but did not care for them on VR, so I went another approach. Instead of the film, I painted them myself. Let me know what you think. Sorry for the crap pictures, it was getting dark, overcast, and rainy. I also got the windows tinted. One bad picture of that. And a few paint plans for the next week too

Edit - Much better pics in post #30 of page 2.

looks like you did a nice job with them, nice work...will you pass inspection because of the reverse lights being red instead of white?

Inspection? Whats that? I can be completely catless with no mufflers and only have to avoid noise tickets here! Good point though, havent tried reverse, although Im going to run some errands right now. Ill let you know shortly.

BTW, thanks.

i actually really like that. very nice job and different than the norm. I bet this would look even better in person. after seeing this, im gonna keep my ear to the ground for an extra set of tails and try this myself if i ever get them. I would have to try something to keep the reverse light white though...probably wouldnt look quite as sharp as this, but its a legal issue so....

Yeah, reverse lights in the rain with just being tinted is kinda a pain, but still shines. Might swipe some brighter bulbs.

Thanks man. It does look really nice in person. Ill be hopefully getting some nice day pictures tomorrow, and have a little project within the next week, and after that, professional pictures are in order.

I wish I could think of some way to make these look clean and still have white reverse lights. Maybe something by the license plate. Hmmmmmm...

Man, you did a nice job on those! It's not totally my style, but props to you for trying something different! It looks really nice on the VR. I happen to like the complexity of the stock tails, but given your rationale, this looks like the perfect mod for you. Super clean!

It looks like you did a great job, however to me there is just way to much red going on... I think smoked would look killer though

take a full *** shot (picture) from way back so we can see both tails and everything

I thought it might be too much red, but any other red car would be the same. I think if they came with stock red tails, it wouldnt be that obvious. Ive seen smoked, and I dont like it nearly as much. Smoked looks good on the wwp and bb. The red also looks great on silver(sorry lacking the official name), would probably look great on wwp, and looks good on bb. Ill get some full shots tomorrow.

i've been wanting to do this for god knows how long, but the reverse light is tricky. i still want to maintain a white reverse light.

i've been thinking of red overlays with a cutout.

Thanks! Its actually quite dirty right now though. I have a couple ideas in mind for next week. Hopefully spruce it up a bit and make it stand out.

I think that would work well, but id be concerned about the edges pealing. give it a shot though, worst case is you take them off. i sprayed mine, so id have to sand it off and re-clear or something else.

Hey ive had mine tinted red for about a year now, and love them with my pearl white. Just a suggestion, you might want to use some rubbing alcohol and take some of the red off a section over the reverse lights. I taped off a small rectangle shape for the white reverse light to show through and it works perfectly, and looks almost stock. The pink reverse light will get ya nabbed, or at least in an accident if you backing out of a parking space. Looks good though

came out good but i dont think all red taillights go well on an rx8 especially on a VR. It needs to other colors for contrast

Yeah, I thought the same, but I didnt like smoked tails on the vr rx8, but I really dont like stock tails. I plan on cleaning it up by shaving the trunk(I know this involves a repaint) so maybe it will look alright after.

BTW, deedub, your car has been my desktop for many months!

No pics yet. Might go try to snag some pics at a lighted garage tonight to see how it looks. Thanks though!

Do not like red tails on VR, at all. That pic helped me bc I was considering doing that.

Doesnt look bad, just not my cup of tea.
