Had some friends over the other night and my friend's wife and her daughter took the 8 for a spin. Needless to say my friend's wife is sold on one and is in love with my car. What have I done, lol? I'll drive the car to work one day this week, Thursday or Friday and snap some pics and post them. I keep promising pics of the new rotor accents but I keep forgetting to post them up.

Snapped a few pics of the 8 before I went in last night. The lighting isn't great but the pics show the newly acquired rotor accents. I'll snag some more pics during the day when I have better lighting.

If you're close to Ohio, I have a spare stock exhaust. I try to keep a lot of parts on hand for my cars. You can imagine what my basement looks like after building RX-7's for the last 18 years... boxes and boxes of parts, totes full of parts, seats, wheels and tires, floor mats, exhaust parts, engine parts, rotors, housings etc..all neatly stacked on shelves and and semi neatly in their respective spot on the floor. My wife may or may not hate it, lol.. This is the only picture I could find of this, but if you look closely, I built a shelf above my workbench to house my boxes of sorted commonly used parts.. I have nearly run out of room in the basement and had to use my garage as overflow parts storage, lol:

We could just put it on here or take it up the road to my buddy's place. He has a lift and we could make short work of it there.

Took a pic of the pair after I pulled in next to the new 05 GT tonight after work. Thought it was cool seeing them together!

The good thing is that you can find good deals on 8's that need work. They're cheap enough right now that I said why not take a chance on this one. Its been neglected for some time and I felt that it would have a good home here with all of my restoration projects.

The Falcon is a very sentimental car to me. Its not a collectible car and people walk right on by it at shows. Doesn't matter to me. I love it and my kids love it they understand what the car means to me and our family. I don't think I could part with it again. I drove it a little bit recently and it drives ok. The brakes need adjusted. Maybe I'll go and take it into work and do that this week or next if the weather is good. I'll see about posting more pictures if you're interested in seeing more.
Sorry if this is a duplicate answer but it was a red ford falcon. The only car my dad ever bought brand new. I was so little that they really didn't come down on me too hard and I think I showed up with it crying my eyes out because I knew how much my Dad loved that car. Oh! I just wanted to thank you for this thread. Its really motivated me to roll up my sleeves and get my RX8 going right. I've torn it down and done all sorts of OCD stuff. While I had to put in the Racing beats oil lines (Look SOOOO nice) I found a variety of rusty plates, bolts etc. And I've been taking all the plates to the wire / grinder and polishing them up, giving them a dunk in some rust into something other then rust and painting them with a few coats of paint. *My wife thinks I'm going crazy. Anyhow I found a white enamal pen and have been filling in the lettering that probably no one even knows exists. So the thing that holds my coils is flat black and has white lettering L1 T1 L2 T2. Nuts... how do you attach a picture? Doesn't matter its all looking good. The battery plate was all crusty now its perfect. Most of the nuts and bolts are now stainless steel. These 8 bolts suck to drill out btw. The only thing I can do in many cases is use a small grinder on a dremmil tool. Anyway - its getting close to being done and I can look under the hood and not throw up.

Part of why I post pictures and descriptions of the progress on my cars, no matter how small is partly to help inspire other members to do the same. To go out and work on their car and get some things accomplished, no matter the size of the job. Whenever I see a restoration thread, I get motivated to do more on my car and I always enjoy reading about other cars and seeing pictures of other people's progress. It in turn inspires me to do more and to appreciate my cars and to turn some wrenches. And honestly, rescue cars are my favorite cars to buy. The 05 GT that I just bought is a rescue car and I have really enjoyed working out the small details and cleaning it up and replacing parts that I have in stock. Here's hoping Mazda will warranty the engine.

MANIACman, it sounds like you're doing an excellent job with your car. I look forward to seeing pictures of your progress and reading more of what you're doing to your car.

This looked worse in person then it did in this before pix.

These are some of the parts post - decrusting. *Note the white lettering is groved into the metal (stock) I just added the white paint from a special pen.

Just 3 or 4 coats of primer after using a chemical bath to convert any rust that the wire wheel might have missed.

The metal on the panel was pretty bad when I wire wheeled it off so there is a texture left

A little sandable primer looks pretty decient even if this is all OCD level stuff. Anyway - I love it!

I don't want to hijack your thread but as a tribute to your inspiration some pix of some of my efforts. This might not inspire anyone other then to suggest I seek mental health help but this is an example of what your projects car posts and pix are helping motivate me. My RX8 is a rescue car. *More then I thought. I've had more enjoyment taking whats under the hood and making it look right then I have had doing anything in years. Its all sort of OCD but now when I open the hood I don't cringe. Plus its doing normal repair on things like the oil coolent lines that have cracked and were leaking.

One thing I'm dying to ask but I've been too embarrassed (Maybe this is normal) Is this weirdness with the Leading 1 spark plug. I've seen misfired when I decellerate and replaced the coils and plugs (And have new wires ready to go in once I get the oil lines put in right (Forgot the copper washers ! ) I think this is abnormal but I don't know what I'm looking at? Is this possibly a cross threaded plug that someone used a kit to fix and either didn't do it right or its blowing out???

The Leading (1) plug looks to be screwed into a sleeve that extends the plug out more then any of the other 3. Could someone tell me what I'm looking at? Is this a thread repair kit thats blowing out or maybe its normal? *Sorry about the dirt and grime. Its going to get a nice engine cleaning once everything is put back together.

I don't think I've ever seen a spark plug extend like that unless it were not tightened or if it were cross threaded. You may want to remove the plug and see if someone threaded a helicoil in there as a thread repair. Odd writing on the rear iron. Was the engine a reman or bone yard engine? Nice job on the brackets by the way! I like the idea of marking the coil locations as it identifies the wire locations quickly as well.

Mazda ordered the mat in for me. It was around $70 or so. When I bought my old 05 new off the lot it had that mat and a cargo net. Very helpful indeed. I had been making this 04 look exactly like my old 05 that I had to sell for the down payment on our house. The difference was that the 05 was a Sport model and this 04 is a base model.

Here she was the moment I saw her.. I knew she had to be mine:

These cars were crazy expensive when new. Their poor reputation has caused their value to plummet, and I will capitalize and buy as many as I can while prices are down.

They were great cars when new. Nothing like them on the road and they always made a scene wherever they would go. The day I bought mine I felt like I was on top of the world. I still remember the smell of the car. When I went to look at this 04, I noticed that it smelled exactly like the 05 I bought. This car still has some of a new Mazda smell to it. Part of the reason why I had to have the car.
