Right sports car sound.....

If they want to get the sound just right, maybe Mazda engineers should hook up with Acura/Honda's engineers and copy the sound of the NSX's heart.

Originally, didn't they take some british sportscars, Triumph and MG to get the sound of the Miata right?

Apparently Mazda spend hundreds of hours listening to countless exhaust notes before finally selecting a sound suitable for the Miata. I just hope they devote the same amount of time and effort on the rx8.

I would think that the RX8 will come from the factory with an exhaust that was capable of handling the needs of the Renesis, short of forced induction. So, I would expect that adding a bigger pipe will do nothing but increase weight (unless the stock pipe is more kinked than necessary, such as on the Miata, but even then...).
Not so. They tuned it down from 280 bhp to 250 bhp. I don't have any insider info on how, but the easiest way would be through exhaust and emissions. A free flowing (reads: header, straight pipe or presilencer and performance muffler that won't melt in a week) exhaust is the number one performance booster on an NA rotary.

Funny, the other forums don't have an echo like this one. :D

There are no wings for the RX-8. You will have to use your mAd PhOtOsHoP sKiLz to cut wings off other cars, modify them, and paste them onto the RX-8...

Did they "de-tune" it, or did they have to decrease their HP estimation?

you mean from the RX-01 RENESIS?? i think they probably "de-tuned" it for emissions, and for longevity... if i remember correctly (and that's a long shot) the RX-01 spec RENESIS had a 10K rpm redline, so you can see that may be a big area for power reduction for the sake of engine life (a whole lot, i'd reckon...), but also more emissions equipment would (quite obviously) improve emissions and choke the engine a bit...

OH!! Sputnik, as for NOTA's aero kit, he's got the IMSA spec one (that's the real race kit that they sold to consumers, i think), just in case you're thinking of the stock pointy setup that the SA had... the IMSA spec kit KICKS SERIOUS ***!! it's too bad that the FC never had anything like that (that i know of), or the A-Spec (japanese) kit for the FD (again, one rockin' aero package)... i hope that the next 7 will at least get one, if the 8 never does <<knock on wood>>

**edit: oh, i see now what you said Sput... :D
