I do know if you look in the Long Term tests in the car mags the 0-60 times decrease after the rx8 has about 30k on it or so... many people think the rotory's just get better with age...

Interesting but it could also be because the driver has more experience by that time and is able to pull off a better time.

Search the Tech Forums on Gas Mileage,
Many owners report and increase in MPG after a few thousand miles.
Your apex and side seals bed in (seal better), improving MPG .

Not more than 5 mpg...

Whenever you're finished with your break-in period & decide to open up the R3 on the road, let me know if you notice a lot of electrical interference in your audio system as you approach redline. Anytime I'm over 7500-8000 the speakers begin to hiss badly in mine & I'd like to know if I'm alone on this.

Funny you say that, today was the first day I really opened it up and on the highway too.... redlined 1,2,3,4 and had to let off around 130ish... but no..... no hissing, I had a CD playing.

Alright, thanks. Try it with the radio on sometime & let me know if you still don't notice anything. I've had the radio on each time & as I approached redline static would completely overtake the music that was playing.

if you want more mpg use vpower from shell
dont use any walmart or cheap gas even if its 93 octane, look for the ethanol s ticker at the pump (has to have a sticker by law if there is ethanol in the fuel) this will reduce mileage significantly 2-3 mpg, i get 20-21 mpg on my rx-8 with shell vpower, i get 18 mpg on walmart 93 octane

and yes mileage does get better even when you drive it harder
i get 25 mpg if its all highway and thats cruising around 90 mph on the highway

update: I messed around tonite, i could not get any sort or noise to be produced. Id take it back to the dealer for sure if that was me with that issue. Who wants a brand new car with radio noise from the motor? Not I.

Wow I love the new 09 style, especially the new headlights and the foglights, and this is the R3, even better. Can you post some interior pictures? The recaro seats? I can't wait to see one on the street.

Hey congrats on the new ride. I plan on buying the new R3 also. Is engine flooding a concern in a brand new car or do you still have to follow guidelines to prevent it from flooding? Just curious since your a new buyer

Static at High RPM's???

I got an 09 R3 a month ago and am noticing that same static sound. I didn't notice it at first but I'm finally getting over the sensory overload part of driving the car.

I know this is an old post, but did anyone figure out what that is causing that static sound? Better yet, what was the fix?

Thanks

Should you really be worried about the stereo at 7500RPM+??? It does not matter what you are playing on the radio because the sound of the engine is more beautiful.

However if the static was at 4-5K rpm's I would be complaining too.

Actually, the static sound is there whether or not the radio, CD etc is on. Its spoiling the engine sound / shreek at those higher RPM's.

The R3's stock wheels are only sexier if you like their gunmetal color. I think with the VR the new rims are better (and with a brighter color the rims look even bigger).
