Look TRUST ME- Just stick with your 8 and enjoy it. I'm in med school right now and trust me
1) the intermittant joy you'll get when going to and from school makes the whole thing worth it. If I've been studying for 10 hours but get to see my car as the only thing left in the parking lot at 2AM, that makes me smile.
2) It's a fine reliable car as a daily driver, you just have to care for it properly.
3) the difference in running costs over 4 years is what, maybe $5K difference, even with insurance and gas? Maybe 10K tops if you count sales proceeds? You'll have huge loans either way and you'll make plenty of money, BUT
4) YOU WILL NEVER GET THOSE GOOD YOUNG YEARS OF YOUR LIFE BACK! So make sure you enjoy them, forget about the money, that'll be a weeks' pay in 10 years and you'll wish you did a whole lot more.
I've managed to squeeze in some track time and plenty of working on my 8 even while doing my M.D. Becoming a doctor has lots of perks but you will have to make a LOT of sacrifices; don't make any more than necessary.

Crikey! And here we find the RX-8's, in their natural habitats on mountain roads. See their majestic cornering abilities! Hear their quiet rumble as they idle! Watch their cousin species hunt turkeys!

So let me get this straight....2 way traffic on a 2 lane road....... bicycles......motorcycles....blind corners. You're lucky you didn't kill someone's little kid. If it were me one one of those motorcycles who's *** you were riding everyone of you would be calling your insurance agents. Bravo guys.
I will say also they were polite to other people on the road, they didn't pull past the bikers on the wrong side or tailgate the **** out of them despite your comment... they drove politely behind them until they pulled over. The guy in the RX-7 also had great reaction with the turkey, that could have ended badly, but he didn't overreact.
Obviously they were going too fast for a public road and nobody wants to endorse that, but on the other hand it was an impressive drive.

Personally I do not have issues with canyon carving like they were doing. They were not racing or driving out of control. IMO this is why many here would buy a sports car. To let loose on a back country road or mountain road.
I'm very lucky to have quite of few such roads near me and enjoy them frequently
It does not surprise me to see the 8s pulling on the higher HP FC on the back roads. IMO the 8 was designed for such an environment. The rev range is perfect. I have kept up with many Evos, STis and such on drives because they can not spool up fast enough between turns to take advantage of their extra HP. Add in some suspension mods and sticky tires and forget about it. But give them a decent straight away or long turn and they will pull on me.
I need to go for a drive now

While normally I've the first person to post the "keep it on the track" post, they were going fast but neither of the RX-8s went across the double yellow... the 7 made a few dangerous cuts across the double yellow to keep up with them which wasn't wise at that time of day. Normally if I do a mountain drive I do it A) late at night in an area with no traffic B) I do a scouting drive through the run first to make sure there isn't an event with a bunch of cars C) I keep a close eye out for headlights and leave room on the side of the road for phantom joggers.
.
.
Nite time there is even worst.... lots of animals (Deer, Rabbits....turkeys...lol.) you wont see till its too late. that road is almost like a mini deals gap.
Eveytime we go out for drives like this we make it known that nobody is here to RACE eachother... we just want to enjoy the car's and bring them back in 1 piece. Ive seen alot of people race eachother... and do stupid moves with no respect for the other driver....

After saying all that - I was SERIOUSLY impressed with the 8's and their drivers. There's a few at the local auto-x that tear it up on A6 race rubber, I was impressed with them on the NT-01's throught the turns. They were going in hotter and carrying the speed more than I. I may have to buy a fresh set of RA1's or NT-01's and tweak the suspension a wee more. The 8's haul though throught the turns.... just do mess with me on the highway or a long sweeper

I made one cut across the yellow - not counting the turkey - and you could see 2-3 turns ahead. Not only that but having just driving it in the opposite directionnot 10 minutes early, there is a tremendous dip in the road there, noticable on camera as what looks like dark fresh asphalt probably from a sink hole. Whether you want to believe it or not it was actually safer to cut the straiter line rather than stay between the yellow and white. Had I seen another car coming the other way, I would've been HARD on the brakes appraoching it so the sudden compression on the suspension, which causes toe changes in the FC, would have minimal effect.
I would say early afternoon on a sunday is safer. Little to no traffic and light. Had that turkey scooted in front of me @ night, I would be picking feathers out of the VMIC.
As was done
As was also done. Don't forget the camera is mounted lower than eyesight in the car and dead center. Proportions are all messed up.
Thanks
I built the car for track racing more than these types of roads. I'm running stock REW sequential turbo's on the side of a ported 13B-RE. 405 max hp. 232 ft/lbs with 250ft/lbs of torque around 3k rpm My problem is getting that power to the pavement. I'm running a little too much neg camber in the rear and some worn RT615's

in the straight line, i would not bother to catch up with u..i would just have to wait until the next traffic light coming, so when you stop then i catch up....
dude, it was a good spot for the camera....will do again.....and thank you for filming it.....you should see the pictures when omar took afterwards...it was beautiful
