Mazda is strange - pics to prove it
The rear brake calipers on the Mazda 6 look polished (or nicely painted), the fronts look just like the RX-8 (you know dull and dark):

One other note...I believe that a polished caliper will radiate retain slightly less heat from the braking system than a non-polished one. Perhaps that has something to do with it, too. Any thermodynamics majors correct me if I'm off here.

My point was, it would have been nice to have had the 'polished' looking ones on the RX-8. Mazda decided differently, and what is strange is the '6' has polished calipers on the BACK, but the ones like the RX-8 on the front. I think it is odd.

That is correct- speaking from a thermodynamic standpoint, given various inherent atmospheric and velocity variables, it has been well proven that if the angle of the dangle is perpendicular to the fall of the ball, the beat of the meat shall remain constant.
Hence, cup holders.
