i did this a while ago, after a year the tape bubbled up like crazy. I tried stripping the tape but it left a very nasty residue, i ended up stripping the whole thing, paint included, and repainted the whole thing black

Avery has a nice "Brushed Aluminum" vinyl adhesive aswell (called Brushed Chrome, although it doesn't look like chrome)... I thought it would look great used for the same application in which you've used the carbon fiber.
The stock silver paint is deteriorating around the same spot my knee tends to sit a lot of the time lol... I think it would make a great replacement.

Where do you get $459.99 from? The fake CF Mazdaspeed trim pieces? Which I know is an outrageous amount for plastic.
I thought about doing that, but I prefer the real CF myself.

Ill probably just paint mine. I had an air freshener hanging from my ebrake, and the sun melted it to the plastic piece; when I peeled it off, off came the paint . Ill prob repaint them black over the winter

Believe it or not, it wasn't the sun. It was the chemicals in your air freshener that dissolved the plastic trim.

Not bad looking,
but i dont really dig carbon anything in the interior. if you change the silver down the middle, than you have the accents on the radio / air vents etc that throws it off. Just too much going on.
I would either paint piano black or just leave em alone.
