Unhappy Hit & Run

Here are a few shots of my RX-8. I had it eleven days before a guy hit it on the passenger side and then fled the scene. Local police have not been able to find him. Had several witnesses but nobody could get his license plate before he took off.

On a positive note, anyone that had any questions as to how the double doors would do on impact...here is proof.

Man that is terrible . . . I really feel for you. Find a reputable shop and get it done right. Brutal. Nuff said.

That sucks! I had a hit and run on my prior car also. I had my car parked on the street and when i got out of work, i found it hit hard. They never found the person that did it. My car was out for like 4 months and my insurance had to pay for the damages since they never found the guy, i thikn the total bill that my insurance paid was around 22-23k. I ended up around $1500 or so out of my own pocket.

I feel your pain.

Thanks folks!

Unfortunately, I was driving when I got hit. The guy was cutting a corner around a store. I saw him just before the hit and turned hard to the left hoping that he would hit the brakes and maybe we would not hit, but no luck. By the time I got out of the car, he had hit the gas and took off. Messed my back up because of the angle of the hit. I'm just glad a saw him for a split second and turned or he would have hit the front.

Don't have an estimate on repairs yet but my wife called the dealership to see how much just the two doors cost. Try $1,300.00.

Oh well, I'll be sure to post the after shots. Will be taking it to my local dealer for the repairs.

Thanks again guys. Glad I found rx8club...learned quite a bit about things.

Take care,
Ray

It does look like its just the doors, and no damage to the sills or other panels from those photos. What about the virtual B pillar latching points?

The sills look okay with the exception of a small ding on the RX-8 plate. As for the pillar, the rear door will not open so I am not sure at this point.

Maybe you shoulda chased that sucker down and called the police while you were following him. Easy to say now, but I guess accident shock can suck.

Thought about that after the fact but at the time the last thing I thought would happen is that he would take off. At least by sticking around I got account of the accident from three different witnesses.

Oh well...I'm on the lookout for a champagne color late model Nissan Maxima.

Side door replacement

Hey just to give u a heads up... Mazda doesn't sell the outer skin for the back doors... I had to fight w/ my insurance co. to have them replace it instead of fixing it.. If they fixed the door they would have used Filler and i told them Hells NOOOO!! u ain't using filler on my brand new 2004... So Try and have insurance pay for replacement of door... Make sure u get all new parts ... and tell the body shop u want to see everything before they scrap it ...

OUCH!!! I'm so sad to see this. I am glad to see how well the "vitrual B-pillar" held up, though... makes a good case for lower insurance. My 8 is still in the body shop, getting new glass and possible a new skin on the drivers door. The guy at the shop thought they might be able to fix the window frame without replacing the whole skin, but not sure... we'll see. Hopefully I'll hear something today.

You definitely have my sympathy during your period of vehicular deprivation... I'm shakin so bad from 8 withdrawal now that I can barely type this... :P
