I picked this up from another forum member and thought I'd share. Better pics once I take her out for a spin (and a wash!). It's nice to finally get an aftermarket rear end

Taking off the oem bumper was a complete pain-in-the-***. I eventually tore off the last two plug thingies. Whatever. Overall I like it. It's not perfect, but neither is my 6-year old paint job. Fitment is maybe 8/10, maybe 9/10. It's hard for me to tell b/c my other aftermarket body pieces were mazdaspeed, so they fit perfectly with no effort. This does line up well, although it was a pita to get it fitted. For whatever reason the license plate mounts were off, minor details...

I love the side (rear wheel) vents. I love that I can still hook up Lebren's light. I love not having that oem faded plastic! I love the exposed exhaust tips! The bottom does seem a bit off (not level), but it's just nice to have a non-oem rear!

FABOLOUS (fabUlous??) rear on - no lebren light yet - gonna take a little effort to get mounted properly.

though that bulge at the bottom would bother the heck out of me. look to get that fixed.

 

yeah, i will eventually. it just seems to be mis-formed, or warped. i have some other body work i'm holding off on for now, so i'll plan on bringing in to my shop with a short list of things to do at the same time, no rush on it.

I personally don't like the vents and the place for a rear foglight, I like it without it, but even with that, it would be even more good if that place for plate is smaller, I mean that is the size for EU plates, your's are smaller, but nevermind, it's nice to see a change.

My opinion is that there are only few good looking rear bumpers for the eight, others look like crap

regarding that bulge, r u sure there's nothing pushing it out? Can't remember having the same thing.

 

old pics of the bumper on your car shows a bulge.

probably deformed from the weight of the bolt and cover for the tow hook...

 

hey what's up man! boy that was fun but a pita the take off/put on! thanks again for the great sale.

yeah, there are two issues: one is like ngo says, the added weight on that side to bolt on that ... thing. the other is unlike the oem bumper, there is nothing along the bottom that bolts to the car. the oem bumper bolts up top (by the trunk), both sides of course, and then 2 or 3 or 4 rivets along the bottom. i remember b/c they were hard as hell to get to and ended up just ripping the last two off!

so anyway, i think when i get some other stuff done at the shop, i'll just see if they can (1) reinforce along the entire bottom part and/or (2) find a way to bolt or spot weld a few braces to "pull/hold" the bottom to the car.

 

Make sure to post pics from the side. I always wanted to see pics of the MS front and sides with this rear. Btw, is your car NG or BB?

ok. i was just out and should have taken some, but some fool parked behind me!! it's bb. i'll get some side shots. at first i thought this rear was lower than oem (oem with appearance package) but it might not be.
