Talking Devoid's near complete build!

OK guys, there will be LOTS of pics here, and I'll post some more up sometime over the weekend. The car is coming very close to completion now....hopefully within the next week.

For far more pics check out the site: http://devoid.mine.nu

Its a full out computer....so I'll use if for normal computer duties. All audio/video is handled by the alpine system (CDs/DVDs/MP3s via iPod)
Computer will do voice control, control the lighting, provide wireless conectivity, read from CANscan, write to CanZoomer piggyback, watch DIVX, etc, etc, etc.

I'm curious, how are you going to provide wireless internet in your car? Don't you need some sort of landline first? Or is this some sort of cell-phone internet set-up?

^^^ 802.11b wireless and 10/100 wired switch with ports throughout the car! The computer can use its wireless connection to act as either an access point for other devices, or connect to other access points. I don't want to pay for cell phone service....too expensive for the amount of data its capable of transfering.

As for Half Life 2....naw, I'll just play on the PS2....or old school NES! Yeah baby! :D

802.11b Is oldschool...802.11g is a little faster. I like how you have modified your car. Keep up the good work.

wow....ok, I didn't think it was going to be such a big deal to warrant a response, but I guess I'm forced to...so here:
1. ASUS makes an addon board specifically meant for the motherboard, that happens only to be 802.11b
2. 802.11b has great distance
3. All my other wireless equipment is 802.11b.
4. No matter what wireless connection you use, none still compare to a wired connection due to the overhead (wanna argue, I have a BS in IT from RIT....you can take my word, we disect wireless networking, as well as work on designing new ones)
5. 802.11b is the most widly available and used wireless standard for hotspots

thus, I use the wireless for simple things, ie web browsing, grabbing small files, checking e-mail, etc. For large file transfers my garage is wired (as well as wireless). Thus, just a quick connection to one of the 10/100 jacks, and I'm onto my home network!

Hope that answers the questions!
