So the "M" on the back and the "RX8" on the back DO NOT have posts? I may just remove those two.

Which ones can I peel off the back without having to deal with the holes? I'd like to remove anything that wouldn't require extra bodywork to be done.

Voodoo, or anyone else that has debadged :

WRT the Mazda badge on the back

a) Can you remember roughly the space between the two holes?
b) Are the holes themselves painted round the rims.

I am looking getting a Veilside badge and would like to replace the Mazda badge with it. So I need to know roughly how big the Veilside badge needs to be to cover the holes so that I don't need to fill them etc - and also that rust etc isn't going to set in if I just cover them up.

I may look at filling them anyway before putting the new badge on.

NB The Veilside badge is 3M'd to the car !

How big are the posts? I have asked this question several times and have not found an answer yet. I would like to remove the two "M" symbols. I think they are too large and the one on the back clutters it up.

Love the photos, BroVo -- just love 'em. If you hadn't debaded the car, Mazda would likely want to buy them

BTW, look at how clean the tires are on the last photo -- they look like they're on a showroom car -- then note what looks like tailpipe smoot at the bottom of the right pipe. If that's smoot, it just goes to show how hard it is to keep those pipes clean.

It's a shame that the "RX-8" decal is the one without posts. That's the only one I'd consider leaving on. And yes, I understand that it's a matter of personal taste -- I certainly don't mean to criticize anyone who likes the other badges.

Guys, we really need a DIY thread. If anyone decides to take the plunge, please keep the rest of us in mind and take the photos! Until then, here are some web pages of interest:

Lightbulb

I'm seriously thinking about giving this a shot. I took off the carpeting in the trunk yesterday and got a good look at the posts. They aren't that big. about an 1/8" I would say, maybe smaller. There is no real need to worry about rust since the posts aren't bonded to the car. Nothing would need to break to remove the badge either. The posts just go through the metal of the car, there is no back bracket.

The hardest part would be finding a good filler material. I am thinking either caulk or solder. Caulk might not stick well and I don't like the thought of the heat from the solder so I am still thinking of a good filler material. But after I have that I have some touch up paint and I am going to buy some clear coat to finish it up. Well, that is my plan. It is daring and I don't want to mess up my car, but I think I can do it. If anyone has any Ideas for me let me know. Lets make this a group project. We'll just use my car for the gineau pig....

I like the Mazda emblem and RX-8 on my car. Matter of preference I guess. I always remove the dealership paraphenalia, however.

Brother Voodoo...I have a gazillion meg of webspace. Any pictures of your car you want posted, lemmee know. This offer is good for anyone wanting to post pictures of their cars, which won't get buried under a mountain of threads.

I hate the fact that cars come with all the badges on them. They look like *** every time. If I could afford it I'd have mine debadged. I didnt even give my dealer the option to put on all their crap, as I told him 1 piece of dealer ID (tag holder, sticker, whatever) and I wouldnt buy the car.

I'm going to look at mine as well and see about doing it myself. DOnt think it should be too hard to manage. Painting it will be the pain.

Cool I took the plunge!

Well... I did it. I took off the two "M" badges yesterday.

When I finish I will do a little write up on what I did, including pictures, but for now here are a couple of details

I used a hairdryer and various materials to cut through the glue.
First I tried dental floss, but it kept breaking... even the heavy duty stuff my sister gave me (she has braces). I then found some thin insulated wire that worked real well. I think fishing line would work excellent but I didn't have any on hand.

The back was easier to remove, the front was a little tougher since I had to break a bracket holding it on. There are two holes in the back and three in the front.

I then filled the holes with epoxy. It worked real well, creating a little dimple that will hold the touch-up paint and leave the finish level. However one of the rear holes needs some fine sanding to level it off.

That is where I am at now. This evening I am gonna sand what needs sanding and clean off the glue residue with goo gone. Then I will do the painting. After that, I need to find some way to clear coat it a bit.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, if I know I'll answer.

It's all a matter of taste I guess. Personally I'd never remove the badges as imo it makes the car look bare and generic...almost homemade in a way.

It would be a boring world though if everyone had the same taste.

I am sure there are cheaper shops. but thats what it cost to do it full out in Irvin Ca, took them 4 days, but we let it sit for 3 of them to cure before they buffed out the entire car.
