I have one thing to say,
My ZEX kit is on its way...:D

 

I am using the Borla cat-back with a Bonez mid-pipe w/silencer. When we were at Road Atlanta some people told me that I sounded like one of the big bore(Mustang, Camaro) class cars when I came by the front straight at 100-110 mph/9,000 rpm. That was good feedback to hear from fellow racers. The microphone on the particular camera that we used must have been a great mic because notice the high whine that we hear in other vids is absent on this one. That makes my exhaust sound warm and full. The key to interpreting vehicle speed is to note the sweep rate of the tach. When I used the nitrous I short-shifted it at 8,000. I shoulda ran it to 9,500 like I do when I race. In addition, the system wasn't working up to spec that time and I discovered an error on my part when I returned home. The problem has been fixed and a new round of data gathering will ensue next week. I may consider renting a video camera for some full-on runs, this time.

I may also start a new nitrous thread which covers the proper intended use of the heater blanket and remote opener and whether or not they are necessary along with the idea of purging. There are several assumptions out there that may cause some to spend money for no good reason.

I have heard of this for quite a long time and my only suggestion is to not try and shift quickly. By that I mean to re-evaluate your finesse because the RX-8 has a quirky clutch/trans thing going on. I actually begin to press the clutch pedal a little sooner than I would like as it seems the pressure plate needs a little more time to let go than other cars I have driven in the past. Even with the stainless line the clutch action is kinda weird. I got used to it, though. I was sorta takin' it easy on the video because I had two passengers and I still caught a bit of brass on the first pass when shifting into either second or third(I don't remember which one). It seems to me the less I try to shift quick the easier it gets. Fluid swaps didn't matter, either. Although the Royal Purple is a better fluid, it feels the same as stock.

Charles could you please give me a link to where you got your mid-pipe please? I love the way your car sounded in the cabin. Would you recommend any other mid-pipes like the B&P or whatever its called?

The video inside the car was with a Canon XL1 Digital Video Camera. The microphone is Stereo and it does have a foam cover. Stabilization is turned on and bracing to keep movement from being apparent is extremely difficult in a run like this. My head was pressed against the roof as I tried to wedge myself securely in the back of the car. A mount would be a good thing but the camera is too big for the standard video mounts.

Video outside was with a small Canon Elura 70 MiniDV, nothing special there. That is why you get the focus problem and the sound is a bit more metallic. Just not the quality of the XL1.

Editing is done in Final Cut Pro. I plan to go back into the video and re-edit. I just couldn’t wait to get it out for some feedback.

HAAA I HATE YOU CHARLES YOUR SO RIGHT ON THE SHIFTING FAST, I USE TO DO IT ALL THE TIME . ohhh and if you take it to far up the rpms it will grind too.

 

Quick question... Charles, Why were you shifting at 8K RPM? I always wait for the buzzer. Does this have something to do with the fuel cut-offs and the N2O?

 

Guys, I'm afraid the video has been too successful. I'm going to have to find another way to deliver it to you. I just got a notice from my web hosting company and at the present rate of bandwidth, I will shortly be running out of my allocation. I guess they will cut me off at that point. I can’t let that happen so I may have to take it down. I'm open for suggestions. I really don't want to pay for more service when this is just a hobby.

Thanks Ellar, I just started working on it a couple weeks ago. I plan to add all the events I attend. Shooting fast cars is a blast. I'm also working on a mini forum to go with it that I hope will be up soon.

 

Yea, now we're talking! This should prove very interesting. Now you need video mounts. I'd like to see two. One on the tachometer so the PIP is a close up of the sweep.

Charles, while riding on the Interstate this afternoon, I had a thought pop into my pea brain. Of all the cars to choose for doing your high performance modifications, you chose the RX8. Why did you choose it and what others were you considering at the time you made your decision.

I was able to take a ride with Charles on his 1st NOS run in Atlanta, and if that run was not at full potential, it is hard to imagine what we will see when it is fully tuned.

So your still getting knock after 7k thats does not sound good .what makes you think that it not the engine or the seals ??
