I just drove the car home. It runs like the old one did, but since the old one was functional, I guess that's to be expected. I will assume this one has better compression, but the butt dyno can't tell, especially when you consider I'm breaking in the engine and am not exceeding 4,000 rpm or going into boost.
We found the exhaust leak, it's from one of the bolts on the turbo to the manifold. During the rebuild no one paid attention to the turbo and it's connection to the manifold, so that was unfortunately overlooked. I'm kicking myself for not checking it out - I thought the exhaust leak was from the manifold to the engine. Charles is going to fix it for me in a few weeks when he returns to Tampa.

Sounds like it was a successful endeavor. Just got off the phone with Ray, he was waiting at the airport. Said the humidity in Florida was a bit high for him,, lol.
This is an interesting photo. You can actually see on the leading face of the rotor where the OMP injector oil was doing its thing. The clean area on the upper outside corners by the apex seals.
So now in 2009 with three OMP injectors it should look a little more even across the face,,, maybe.

My idea in all of this is to replace anything that might even be remotely needing to be replaced. I don't want to go through the hassle of another engine swap/rebuild, so do it right this time around.

I took it real easy on my first motor for the first few thousand miles before I got on it. That seemed to work OK for me.
With the current one, my plan of attack is no boost for around 500 miles. I'm going to just drive it like I'm grandma, with no hard acceleration. After 500 miles, I'll change the oil, and then do another 1,000 miles of grandma driving, with maybe a bit of light boost without the boost controller. Then another oil change and then see what she does with the boost controller turn on and set to around 7 psi.
BTW, the first 5 miles or so, the idle was at around 700 rpm. Now at 20 miles, the idle is close to what it was on the old engine - around 950 rpm. The car died on me once when I parked at AutoZone, but I think the trims are still in flux as it had only seen 3 startups at that point.
The AFR's look like what they should be - I am just waiting on a richer map from you

by taking the leap and assuming my understanding is in the ballpark, i was surprised to here you say you wouldn't be boosting or running high rpm for a time

This year it almost seems that way because of the one month of no driving when waiting for the new tranny.
I gave it some thought and I don't think I need the normal new car breakin procedure because my tranny isn't brand new now. Also inside the engine the pressed seals are not new. Since the seals and housing are all that matters and they aren't going to be changing much, you might be right.
