Blackbirdrx8 Build Thread
This is the progress so far on my car and will continually be updated as more parts are added.
Day 1. finally found her and brought her home
First changes were a little interior redecorating. The silver on the console was fairly scuffed up so out it came and redone in piano black. Along with the console, the plain white lights came out and replaced with blue LED bulbs.
and crappy night pic of interior
Next was exterior lights. I personally find the orange corners horribly ugly so they got blacked out quickly. .
Shortly after came the factory spoiler.
after realizing the factory reverse lights suck, I got LED replacements.
After seeing a fair amount of 8's in my area with stock wheels, I wanted a different look but didn't want to drop a grand or so.
(my hovercraft)
mid-process.
2 coats of etching primer, followed by gloss auto paint, and 2 coats of clearcoat
impatiently waiting for the paint to dry.
and the final result.
needed some tire shine but owell.
last and most recent upgrade to the bose lack of bass.

Finally got a chance to install my s-techs (Big Thanks to 9krpmrx8 )
Also ordered and installed spacers. very happy with them. Hopefully the new bumper will be painted and fitted soon.

Well it came blue. and thats how I like it. I dont have a rig for rolling shots but if I did there would be plenty of them. I fly planes and the sr-71 blackbird has been my favorite plane since I was a child so it fit for the username.

update bump#2
It's been a while since I've updated this thread but Im glad I can finally add to it.
The Most noticeable update is the Tsunami front bumper installed. This is by far my favorite bumper followed by the Mazdaspeed bumper. The fitment was very good even tho the tabs that fit where the side markers belonged were broken.
The second upgrade was finishing the stock appearance package from the front mudguards back to the spoiler.
Following the appearance package was the Borla catback exhaust. I may be in love with the way my car sounds now. I like hearing the exhaust better than the music.
The last and most recent change has been installing coilovers. I have changed the adjustments a handful of times and am fairly content with the current setup, however I still need to get an alignment.
More pics to come in a photoshoot

I also need to replace the radio because im tired of the ipod cable falling out continuously. I want to get the metra kit but im not sure what head unit to pair with it. Crutchfield has a pioneer appradio that looks nice but I dont know much about it other than the less than detailed description. any suggestions?

Its been quite some time since this thread has been updated..
A few small changes and a few large ones to note.
First I installed the pioneer app radio with the metra kit. Its a great radio with the apps available and with charging the phone however I do at times wish it was able to use the ipod over bluetooth rather than plug and play.
Next I replaced the old wornout coilovers with a fresh set of powertrix coilovers which have been all around excellent, no issues so far with the bushings.
I unfortunately had to choose between curbing a wheel or destroying the bumper on a wooden crate in the street, which led to my next purchase.. 18x9 +18 enkei rp03 (sbc color)
Somewhere along the line in between I picked up a bhr midpipe and some 5k parking lights to match the HIDs
The latest update has been a new set of drilled and slotted rotors from the great guys at rotorpros. they were extremely quick to get these to me even over a holiday weekend.
