Must be interesting to see it on video after having gone through it.

It's hard to tell how bad the crash was until the very end when you see how much damage can be seen from just that little view of the car.

Were you conscious at that point? In a coherent manner that is...

Hmmm, interesting...

First off, good to see only a small vertebrae was hurt. Still sucks, but it could've been much worse (as everyone has said already).

As for the car... well, this goes to prove, yes the RX-8 has pretty good aero, but alas, it's not as good as the Boxter.
Funny how you guys entered the corner at relatively the same speed, and yet, the Boxter never caught air. Go fig, huh?

What's even stranger is, back in the day, the RX-7 crew use to do the same run. And the only car we ever lost in all the years we attended our meets, we lost an early 70's 1st gen RX-7.
Rolled accidently rolled into the ditch. Again, too much speed in a corner that wouldn't allow it.

The only thing that I could get from the car was my EDFC controller. Everything else was pretty much destroyed. The radiator was 15 feets higher on the road, the hood was opened like a can. What happend is the car landed on its 4 wheels 15 feets lower in the ditch on big rocks.

I still have my Forgestart 18x9.5 at home, they were never used with brand new Advan AD08 in 255/40/18 on them.

I'm adding the two pictures of the car after the crash.

And one before

I will not tell the speed on a forum for obvious reason. I would just say the the Boxster was goind a little bit slower than me, you can clearly see it by the speed at which I'm getting coler to it on the first part of the video. You can also see that the boxster also jumped in the air, this is where you see the cameraman losing the rx8 from his sight.

the DSC was turned off (hoo god I regret).

I was conscious all the time, I only blinked my eyes when the airbag exploded (they burned my right hand). My first reaction was to turn of the engine ( I know I didn't had to) because I saw some smoke coming off. Then I tried to get out of the car by opening the door but it wouldn't open. I tried to get out by the sunroof and then fiured out a way to get out by the window without using my legs too much.

In my great dumbness, I figured out that it would be easier to drive barefoot since I was wearing sandals. When I crashed the cluch pedal shoved some part of my left foot pretty bad. It's a chance that I heal very fast. Damn I feel stupid some times.

A first response guy came help me very quick (not those who make the fertility tests). He helped me a lot and made sure I would move since my neck or my back had been badly hurt. I had to wait 45 minutes for the ambulance with all those flies biting me. I managed to keep kill the time by make jokes. The body was in bad shape, but the mind was still ok.

Anyway at the end, a very bad accident because I was acting like a moring, thinking that my car and myself were good enough for that curve. I only saw that hill at the last second and it was too late.

Wow. Glad you are recovering. It takes quite a severe accident before occupants get injured in an 8 from everything I have seen, but it still protects you remarkably well.

I'm glad you learned from it though, and hopefully others will as well. Especially that DSC

Slightly annoying usually, but is this alternative worth turning it off? I think you would agree that it isn't

Good luck on the healing man.

I'm sure I will be fine soon. I can walk easily and I can even pass the lawnmower, not to long.
Give me a couple of weeks and I'm my two feets running and bicycling.

I can't say the same of the car.

Dang dude dang, the video was awesome! Sorry about your ride. It doesnt even look like the car should have lost control over that little dip in the road? You must have been really flying. I don't see why it would matter if you posted how fast you were going? The evidence is all in the video. Anyways dibbs on the MAZDASPEED wing!

I don't think "aero" has anything to do with the crash. I don't think he is doing 100miles+ for the aero to really takes great effect at all.

I think its more with the speed and the OP's suspension set up.

Regardless, glad to see you live and learn and thanks for sharing. Hope you a speedy recovery. And never turn off DSC on the road....if you screw up at the track its a spin (with enough space)...on the road...well...

Well, its easy to observe mistakes when its too late, but on the road things happen fast. Glad to hear you're okay and sorry about the car.

I think maybe even DSC wouldn't have saved you. The car went airborne, DSC isn't gonna help much with the tires off the ground. People assume DSC is a cure-all and you can't crash with it on, thats not true.

Glad youre ok though, and nice choice for a next car!

I think it would have prevented this crash myself but I've gotta say I've never had a similar experience ....

actually it would help preventing over steering. I had a similar experience when a slow corner downhill.

You know the one thing I notice from this video, is you didn't counter steer at all. At 0:38 its quite obvious why you crashed. Counter steering might have saved your butt, allowing you to skid straight, instead of off the road.
