Made the same road trip in the past. verrry boring. Both OK and TX were boring at times it wasn't unit we hit New Mexico that things started getting interesting. Best part was the highways and the many straight aways and no cops to be found anywhere.

My 3000 mile road trip in the RX8: Maryland to the tip of the Gaspe penisula (Quebec) and back.

Back seat passenger (my daughter) for the Montreal portion of the trip.

The suspension took a beating -- had to upgrade to MS when I got back.

I also drove I80 between Chicago and Wyoming on multiple occasions many years ago. My name for that trip: White Line Fever

So again, did you end up getting any tickets? You said the scanners saved you a few dozen times, but that doesn't mean you didn't get any...

Zero tickets if you can believe that. During the trip we were doing 20-30 over the speed limit and speeds of 120 in New Mexico, Arizona.

I scanner that I bought has this feature where it will pickup highway patrol cars within a 3 mile radius. Highway patrol uses those little extender antennas which the scanner picks up and alerts you via a light and sound.

It was the Uniden BCT8, its the only one that I found that had this feature. Reception was good and it provided some entertainment as well.

You can see the alert light, left of the *****. I hardwired it and had some sticky Velcro holding it down.
