I'm not sure if there's one online. I bought the FSM and the wiring diagram books in addition to the oem transmission manuals. I try to keep hard copies of all of my repair manuals.

I'm impressed with the work you've put into it.
It's my second favorite color.
I've been following your progress since I was hoping to do the same with my LY.
As time passes and with health issues it seems less likely, but I'm still hoping I can eventually get started on it.

I wish I had a young helper.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for following the thread and your support! I have so much going on that its difficult to stay on one task. Since the engine is not good, I'm on the hunt for another engine. Rebuilding may end up too costly. I may source a reman from Kevin Landers or find a known good used engine elsewhere. Currently I am getting my 85 RX-7 back up and going as it has been sitting for 6 years. Figured why not, I have the parts, let's get started. The water pump was leaking, I had rust forming in the hatch area so I repainted that, put on new tires, servicing the front brakes, cleaning everything, all new fluids and filters etc..

My kids are generally good helpers. The boys pick and choose when they want to help but will help when pressed. My two youngest girls love to be in the garage with me and will help me clean things but not at the gas where they can really turn wrenches yet. But I teach them as they show interest. Mostly they are just there for company.

Mazdave,
I remembered today that you were restoring this Nordic green RX-8.
I thought I recalled you saying you were interested in the tan interior for it.
So I wanted to let you know that there is a Nordic green 8 with tan interior at a salvage yard near me in Pontiac MI.
The front seats are gone but the back seats, steering wheel and interior door trim are in tact.
Just in case you are interested, I thought you might want to know.

Thank you very much for the link. I'll definitely look into it! I'm still interested in putting the black/chaparral interior in the car!

My oldest son and I were washing the car yesterday and took it for a quick ride up the road. Compression is still low and I need to replace the engine again but we still love the car and enjoy having it! It's tucked away back in the garage currently.

Is the low compression causing hot start issues or misfires?

The engine fires right up when cold and runs excellent. Once it's been running for 15 minutes at idle or after a drive it wants to stall and will not restart until its completely cooled down. I'm saving for a new engine currently and I've just been fixing things on the car in the meantime. The crapshoot is that this is a Mazda reman engine with only 32k miles on it. I bought it from a guy and verified the engine mileage with Mazda before pulling the engine. I took a chance on it and didn't get lucky. The cold compression numbers were good and I didn't figure they would drop a such as they did when the engine was at normal operating temperature. These engines are vastly different from the 12A and the older 13B engines I'm used to.

I've owned RX-7's for 23 years and have been restoring them here and there during that time period. I bought an 05 RX-8 from the dealer in 08 and it was a great car. I sold it for a down payment on my house in 2012.

Bought another identical RX-8 in 2015 which I still have. Engine failed on that car and I bought a replacement engine and installed it. Still have that car.

I have another Nordic Green RX-8 identical to this one. I just gave it to my 13 year old son to start restoring.

I also have an 04 RX-8 Touring in Titanium Gray. It's on the back burner but ill restore that once I'm done with this car. I'm learning about these cars every time I work on them!

Wow, you're a glutton for punishment.

That's a nice collection. I hope your 13 yr old appreciates it and enjoys wrenching on them.

My WB that I traded in on my truck was exhibiting the same symptoms that onset quickly in a couple of months.

My LY had hard start issues that worsened gradually over 2 years.
It never died after starting like yours and my WB did.
The only problems I had after starting it were if I accidentally stalled it.
I did have some issues in the Texas heat on the last summer road trip I made in it when after an hour or 2 of highway cruising it would shut off for a few moments, but would start up again before I even came to a stop.

I wonder what the difference in the failures are?

I'm definitely a glutton for punishment. I just really love these cars. As for the difference in wear, that's tough to say. Likely just different seal and housing wear I would suspect. Seems the early reman engines weren't built well and didn't hold up in many cases.

Yesterday I made some more progress on the car. I replaced the right front abs speed sensor wire which was cut in half. I found the right front sway bar end link disconnected so I cleaned the threads to bare metal and ran a die over the threads and reinstalled the end link with a new nut.

Another big leap is getting the audio system working. I read a bunch of links here on the forum about diagnosis and decided to try each suggestion if it applied. I eventually removed the radio and over sitting for the last year, the plastic cracked around the nuts that hold the faceplate to the stereo. This allowed the faceplate to pull away just far enough that pressing in on the radio face would not help. I removed the radio from my 04 Titanium Gray Touring RX-8. I cleaned it up and swapped the climate controls and all is well with the radio. The only current issue I have is that the left front tweeter muffled. I swapped it with another I bad and it's the same. So either I have two bad tweeters or I have an issue.

Here's what i was dealing with when i started yesterday:

My CD changer/player quit working on the LY.
I'm not very good with electronics.
I may just see if I can find another one down the road.
I have the Grom so at least I can stream some music.

I like that you include your kids in the car hobby. Keep it up. I had a '83 RX7 that I miss so much now. I will find another FB at some point.

Even after replacing the cut right front speed sensor wire, I'm still getting a code for the right front speed sensor. Looks like it might be time to order a new right front wheel bearing.

I had regrets about not keeping my first car, a yellow '69 Javelin with a 290 V8.
I wanted another one for years, then one popped up FS in my area before I bought my 8.
I rushed to go see it and when I saw it I forgot how homely the interior was, the dash and vinyl seats were awful.

RX7s aren't really that old, their interiors are still pretty contemporary, so it's not quite the same thing.

Thank you for reading through my threads there! I'm not sure I could ever be without an RX-7 or RX-8. I went 3 years without an 8 and I felt awful for itml.

I have a comfortable collection of rotaries and I try and make threads on each one. I value everyone's input and it helps to keep motivation for my project cars. I work a lot and my wife and I have 7 kids ao it can be difficult to devote a lot of time to each car. Incorporating the kids with my restorations and teaching them has been a blessing. They're the next generation that will love rotaries and they will need the knowledge to be able to fix them.

The Javelin would be a fun car. Sure it doesn't have the best interior but it's still an excellent muscle car! Would be something neat to restore! I still love the interior on my RX-7's. I also feel it's fairly contemporary, especially when compared to other cars of the time period.

My idiot nephew just sold my late brother's '69 Amx with a 290 V8 and factory Hurst 4 speed and my Dad's '68 Javelin with an I-6, both for $5k.
He could've got way more just for the AMX.
Idiot is an idiot.

My brother bought the AMX around 1975.

I haven't posted an updated in a little bit. The more I think about it, from a time standpoint, I may just order a reman engine. I don't have the time to rebuild the one that's in the car currently and I have a lot more to do to this car and the others that need a little bit over the winter.

As I've gotten older I've placed more value on my time over money.
I paid Rotary Doctor to do my brakes and shocks when he replaced my engine.
I was going to do it, but I'd rather be driving it than working on it.

Right now I'm working two jobs and always never seem to have enough time. My wife and I have seven kids and I spend a ton of time with the kids and incorporate the cars in as much as I can. I was going to rebuild my spare 6 port engine that I have in the garage but I feel stretched thin and want this car ready for the summer. It seems like the best option to some buy a reman engine.

I haven't looked recently. I may contact Kevin Landers to see if he will have any available this spring.
