****Painted the Bose Tweeter Area****

5 Attachment(s)
Got to thinking while in the car with my girlfriend the other night as to why Mazda Didn't paint the Tweeter Area To Match the Vents. Well I decided to do it and to my surprise I think it looks pretty good. They should have done from the factory!

Besides the Tweeters turning out good, I get to bring my 8 in early(Tomorrow) to RP Performance in Manassas VA to have the Racing Beat Clutch, Flywheel and Pressure Plate installed. They said if I bring it in at 7am I will get it back the same day. Can't wait to feel the difference!

How do you all like the Color Matching on the Tweeters with the Vents?

Anyone have the Racing Beat Cutch Setup installed and if so feel any differences?

HardHitter 04-28-2005 10:48 PM

That looks great, very nice and clean. Really matches the car. Did you use touch up paint or what did you use to do that? I might think about doing that since I too have SS 8.

While you're at RP, tell them to ship me my Supercat Pipe! lol, I just ordered it tonight and I'm excited to get it.

Keep us informed, looks nice, great job.

Moostafa29 04-28-2005 10:53 PM

It actually looks really nice. Might have to try that.

cas2themoe 04-28-2005 10:57 PM

No, I didnt use touch up paint. I'll post a pic this weekend of the stick I used. I went to a Hobby Shop a couple of miles down from me and picked out the best color match I could. It turned out to look exactly the same as the vents silver color. I'll post the pic tomorrow or Saturday of the Paint Stick. It was kinda like a pen. Paint went on well just had to be a little careful.

I'll most def keep you guys informed on the RB Clutch Setup. I've heard nothing but positive things about their products.

Nemesis8 04-28-2005 11:01 PM

Now that is cool

LiL BenNy 04-28-2005 11:09 PM

Woke up a little earlier this morning to take a picture of the Paint Pen.

It's Made by Testors, The Color is called Silver Argent and the part # is 2546C. I think it was like $3 and some Change.

Heres a Link on their Website: http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=1442

Good job. I really enjoy detail projects.

What are of MD are you in?

hotpot 04-29-2005 07:16 AM

Not bad, not bad at all. Well done.

Razpewton 04-29-2005 07:31 AM

I can't tell what you did. The silver rim around the tweeter? It looks so professional, I can't spot what you painted. Good job....

Pete 04-29-2005 10:41 AM

I never actually thought of that ... well done !

I'm in Beltsville, basically right next to College Park near the University of Maryland.

cas2themoe 04-29-2005 11:02 PM

It was idea I thought of a couple of weeks back and thought I should do it and see what it looks like. I'm Glad it turned out so well and that the color matched. My buddy thought I had to professionally done as well.

To add a note, I Also had the Racing Beat Clutch, Flywheel and Pressure Plate installed today as well. Right off the bat you can tell the difference in the height at which the clutch now catches, the response time of pressing on the gas pedal and the rate of speed in which you reach high RPM's.

I'm still in the Break in Period and the owner at RP Performance told me that it may take a couple of hundred miles for it to fully set it. Also said Racing Beat has a different kind of metal on the Flywheel that makes noise during the Break In Period or until it is fully worked in with the clutch.(I can definitely hear it and it Does seem to be slowly going away like he said).

If any of you have the money I high suggest the Racing Beat Clutch Setup.

Looks very nice, I think I might have to take your idea and run with it! Did you mask anything off/remove anything or just paint it in place as it was? Nice job and thanks for sharing!

JamesThomas 04-30-2005 10:23 AM

cas2themoe did you have to take the tweeter apart so you could paint it?

khtm 04-30-2005 10:25 AM

Has anybody mentioned yet that those AREN'T tweeters? They're mid-range speakers.

Nice idea though!

I didn't mask anything I messed up once or twice but I was able to get the paint off. You might want to towards the circle part. The Bose name was pretty easy to do, just run over the top of it with the pen softly.

Yeah I took it off of the door and unscrewed the tweeter from the plastic so I could work on them from inside where the light is bright.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure those are Tweeters. I thought the speakers lower on the door play mids and lows? I have no idea what the speaker in the middle of the dash does tho.

khtm 04-30-2005 10:35 AM

No, they're 2 " midrange speakers. The speakers lower on the door are 9 " woofers.

Don't tweeters play highs?

StealthTL 04-30-2005 12:01 PM

It is Bose.....

Since they are the smallest @ 2", and since the Bose system only uses 'mid-high' as their highest frequency speakers, I think it's safe to lump them in as 'tweeters'!

"No highs, no lows - must be Bose!"

S :D

cas2themoe 04-30-2005 01:13 PM

Cool, Learn something new every day

khtm 04-30-2005 02:09 PM

Yeah those speakers definitely don't handle highs well. I've already replaced them with real tweeters that can handle the mids as well and highs much better.

What brand did you replace them with?

MI_FamilyMan 04-30-2005 05:50 PM

Holy Armor-All Cas!!! What did you use on your instrument panel and door panels to get that shiny gloss?! Not a fan of that but you must have put a bit of work into it.

BTW, nice job on the tweeters and Bose emblem. Looks real good.

Hellbreed 04-30-2005 09:25 PM

Funny, I've been looking at those speakers thinking something was missing, couldn't quite put my finger on it but it looks like you did. Very nice!!

Razz1 05-01-2005 12:33 AM

[/I]NICE

Wonder if I like the subtile look or yours.

Good job!

cas2themoe 05-01-2005 02:19 AM

I used Meguiars to do the Trim. Works great and last long.

anyone know how to take the plastic off to paint these?

They pop off, just pull evenly from the top and the bottom. It should pop right off. I didn't have to force it too much.

Nemesis8 05-01-2005 05:50 PM

That easy huh, I was pulling on them and quit for fear of breaking them. I'll try again and tug a little harder. Did you use a screw driver or just your finger nails?

I hear that! I was thinking the same thing before doing mine. I got lucky when I picked the color of pen that I did. It's basically a perfect match!

LiL BenNy 05-01-2005 08:35 PM

hey i have everything in my hand right now.. but i tested a little out and DAMN is it shinny.. is yours a metalic color or just silver? im scared it might be tooooo shinny....

Air Force RX8 05-01-2005 08:52 PM

I got one too! Just ran out of time to do it today...

Mine looks almost exact to the stock color. Heres what I used.

LiL BenNy 05-01-2005 09:55 PM

dont do it unless your confident. i hate mine i wish i never did it. i fcked up then tried to sand it down and fck it even more im really mad. if you're a perfectionist at this shit DONT do it cuz you'll mostlikely fck it up. for your pen make sure the ink doesnt run a lot or it will come out like shit. I RECOMEND YOU USE A TOOTHPICK TO PAINT THE BOSE. put a few drops of ink in the middle then move it with a toothpick comes out really nice. toobad i figured this out on my second one. DEFF tape sides even if its not close.. if you get it on your finger and touch the piece welllllll your fcked once again. mine didnt come out terrible just not very happy witht hem if you look at them close. DAMNIT.

cas2themoe 05-01-2005 10:02 PM

I'll agree with that. I have done cars models since I was around 12, so I have a liitle skill when it comes to doing things such as this. BUT if you use the same exact pen as I did your given about a 5 min grace time where you can rub off the paint on spots that you messed up.

LiL BenNy 05-01-2005 11:03 PM

damnit i wish i knew that the pen i got prally sucks thank god for acetone... i just used a whole bunch of that shit and took all of it off.. looks slightly diff? or maybe thats because i did it idk if its noticeable... i think ill just do BOSE silver... or maybe another stab at it? the second one i did didnt come out tooo bad aslong as i use a toothpick and tape the edges... just the friggen pinstrip tape i got for my rotars doesnt stick to the damn plastic!

cas2themoe 05-02-2005 09:42 AM

What kind of pen are you using?
