Sport Compact Car "g Masters"
Sport Compact Car "g Masters"
I picked up the latest SCC today, very much anticipating the feature story on cars that can withstand high lateral g. The RX8 was plain to see on the front cover with a bunch of other cars, including some race cars.
It turns out they used the RX8 as some kind of a baseline car alongside a Toyota Yaris. They did a summary or story on every car tested. They even souped the Yaris up so that it could pull over 1g. But here's the kicker ... They said almost nothing about the RX8. It's almost like it wasn't there.
This is just a heads-up in case you see the RX8, and instinctively want to buy the magazine. It was just disappointing to see a story covering a car that excels in this area, and for them not to dote on it.

I've seen the article and while I'm disappointed with the lack of coverage the rx-8 gets in the article, I don't really blame them. If I were any car magazine, I'd be getting pretty sick of the 8 by now since the thing has not changed a bit since it came out. There isn't much more to be said or tested on this car that hasn't been tested to death already.
Another sucker here. They used the 8 as a reference car, if I remember correctly.
Thought it wasn't a bad article. The 8 pulled 1.03 Gs at 85 mph in a turn on the track. A .92 on the skidpad. Not a bad place to start.
The article gives you an idea how much of your spine and kidneys you need to sacrifice to get to some G figure that will make you happy.
I would have been happier if they had used my benchmark of Porsche Cayman. Oh well, the Noble will have to do (.97 skipdpad and 1.08 turn 2 Gs).
