So Cool Report on RX8 from Top Gear Mag
Hey!
I found this on Top Gear Magazine. Try this link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps/index.shtml
If the link doesn't work, go to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear
and click on powerlaps. The RX8 performs along awesome company! Producing a lap time tie with BMW M3, Acura NSX, Nissan 350z...and it beats the Ford Focus RS, Lotus Esprit, Audi TT V6, Noble, Mercedes SL 55 AMG, VW R32 among others...
I love my RX!!
Steve

Wow. Frankly I am a bit surprised by this. I didn't expect the 8 to run identical laps to cars like the M3, or even the 350z for that matter. And to be behind the nsx by only 2/10ths is pretty amazing.
Thanks for posting the article. I would like to see their comments/impressions behind these numbers though.

wow, i wonder what tyres all those cars were running (OE of course, but i'd just wanna know what they were for each car), as that would make the biggest difference.

I'm not suprised, I knew the 8's superb balance and handling would be a factor that enabled it to take turns much faster than others, even though it might be .1 seconds slower 0-60 than a 350Z at 5.9

The RX-8 also ran the same times as the NSX at a Leguna Seca test as well. But the fact that it did better than a SL55 AMG and a Ferrari 575 is impressive. The track must have a lot of turns that favor a good handling car.

The hot lap in Top gear is made for the RX-8. Very twisty.
I am not surprise the RX-8 perform that well. I am on par with the Porsche on track day. Faster than the Ford Performance Vehicle with a V8 producing 290kW and heaps of torque. It is just not power alone. RX-8 has a good chassis to push very hard.
Thanks for posting my link eddyjo but I wish you put www.step-hen.com/e_rx8clips.htm and go though the link instead. I don't link people just use my site for the ftp downloader. Hope you understand.

That video was awesome. Ive driven my car on a 1.8 mile track and I must say this car is so much fun to drive. I was on a track with a few supras and they couldnt keep up. I dont really know the skill level of the driver or what exactly they had under their hood, but it was nice to see them slow dissapear from my rear view.

remember when looking at these lap times, that some of these cars had to do the track in the wet. The 8 was not one of them. I think the nsx-r had to do the track wet, although I can't find that video to check. Usuall they (Top gear) say to add 1-2 seconds for a wet track.
Oh and the Carrera GT should be tops of that list with a 1:19.8

.8 seconds slower then the Porche 911 turbo...for the difference in price my wallet remains bigger and my ***** remains MUCH bigger!
Just think guys...lots of those cars have FIs...all sorts of turbochargers and superchargers...what do we have?
and when a serious FI kit comes out (from Mazda we hope)...we will have one of the fastest cars in the world, period.

It is my link. I host a few clips for the RX-8, our beloved cars (see links to my sigature). Unfornately, it drains my bandwidth of my homepage, so I cut it down and reduce quality to fit the download demand. I have a few Top Gear videos from other sources. Most famous is the racingflix.com but you have to subscribe to them to get faster download.
I wish I have the server power to host them all.
BTW I think they should specify if they are testing in the wet. It is kinna misleading in a sense if they just post the lap times in different conditions.
