I really wish mazda would just go ahead and lift the lid on the next-gen rx, because right now I'm saving up money for the stuff on my car (wheels and other stuff) but as soon as they announce a next gen rx I will start saving my money for that =d.

Isn't it almost a definite that it will be a 1.6l? I think they need to make a NA and a Mazdaspeed version that is turbo'd jus like the 6,3, and miata.

I wish they would but I dont think there would be enough of a market for a 40-50 grand RX8 to even be worth producing. Unfortunately.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be very surprised if mazda released another turbo rotary. I'm willing to bet that the "turbo rotary" that tech/service manager was talking about was really an NA 16x. I think he was just misinformed.

If mazda only produced a turbo rotary in their next rx, yes it would be another failure, but if they made a 1.6l NA version and then a turbo version like someone above suggested, I cannot imagine them losing any money on it. I mean it would be the same car. Maybe for every 10 NA versions they make 1-2 Turbo versions. If you wanted the less powerful NA version for 30k then buy that one. If you are one of the FEW that want and can afford the more powerful 40k version then buy that one.

^ oh and it doesnt have to be an overly complicated twin turbo setup like last time that needs and engine rebuild after 60k miles. A small, low boost, single turbo for and extra 50-75 hp or so like the 2nd gen rx-7's would not be nearly as problematic.

I would rather have a reliable 'quick' N/A RX that has lukewarm sales than a turbo RX that fails due to lack of reliability and expensive maintenance. My .02

i agree with Bulletproof if they made both a simple turbo and a NA Rotary available that would be epic ... but if the turbo rotary doesnt sell then mazda can always just phase it out and stick with the NA model

Looks like the re-did the exterior of the RX 8

This is what they should have done for the 2009 plus the new 16x motor and a 400lb weight loss.

there is still about a 20hp difference between our 8's and the last 7. the 8 is also several hundred pounds heavier and probably a good 50 less lb of torque.

the last RX-7 produced *over in Japan* was 270ish range. Too bad they had to stop selling over here >_>

We will all have to survive the end of the world first in 2012 before we can get the next true replacement for the RX7.....lol

Planet R"X" is comming, along with the cycle of the myan calander and people playing scrabble with the bible. I'm going to have so much fun watching many many people run around like chickens with their heads cut off stressing over this "end of the world" hype.

P.S. The red car and the black car in the Japanese magazine look like the same car. Maybe that's the real one that we should expect the next gen rx to look like.
