RX-8 in Top 10 Sports Cars

From MSN Autos:

1. Ford Mustang
2. Chevrolet Corvette
3. Nissan 350Z
4. Ferrari Enzo
5. Lamborghini Murcielago
6. Porsche 911
7. Dodge Viper SRT-10
8. BMW M3
9. Mazda RX-8
The rotary engine returned in 2003 in the form of the Renesis engine that powers the RX-8, producing 238 horsepower when combined with its 6-speed manual transmission. Unique not only for its rotary engine, the RX-8 coupe also offers a second rear-hinged door on each side for improved access to the back seat.

10. Honda S2000

How did the mustang make the number one sports car, yuck. I would think the ferrari and the lambo would be higher up on the list, but maybe not since they are expensive. The 350z should not have beaten the ferrari or the lambo either. Seems like kinda a little messed up to me.

The small print clearly says the list was based on the authors top 10 cars he was able to think up in 15 minutes.

if it was about the cost, the enzo wouldn't be listed right in the middle. It'd either be at one end or the other.

Is MSN trying to rate the 2005 Ford Mustang? If not, I am totally amazed that the current model would even make the list at all, not to mention the #1 spot.

Didn't any of you bother to read the web page??
The most popular sports cars on MSN Autos, based on visits to the site's vehicle research pages during the first quarter of 2004.
So nothing about cost, nothing about performance, it's purely based on what people clicked on.

Well that makes more sense. The Mustang's popularity can be seen also by the fact that it is in every rental car fleet around the globe. LOL

Here's the link, if anyone's interested. It's a very weird assortment of cars - as Len points out, it's based entirely on what people clicked on for more info.

I think you should delete Acuras from the consideration. If it is front-wheel drive, it is not a sports car. Period.

I also would not pay any attention to a list with Mustang in it.

If it's based on popularity of sites visited or whatever, is it possible that they are referring to the 2005 Mustang which hasn't been released? Because I would assume that people would be really excited to read about the new mustang vs. the current model which has been out for several years.

You think? I mean, I'm sure he knew the NSX is rear drive. He was talking about other cars that weren't on the list, right? I mean, I'd hate to think of a mid-engine, rear-drive car as a sports car...

I didn't see the second page with the responses about the NSX. Sorry to pile on.

Sorry it's my mistake. I thought it was one of the other Acuras that ended with an "X". NSX, as dated it may be, is a sports car.
