RX-8 sales are up in the USA.

Contrary to what the naysayers have been posting here for months, RX-8 sales are up compared to this time last year.

Read about the March sales of the RX-8 in the U.S here.

I have a friend in japan that says rx8 and skyline sales over there are doing super bad. when him and his friend came to visit me in US was first time they saw RX8. over in japan rx8 is not selling well. toyota seems to be kicking much *** though. 1 out of ever 2 new cars bought right now is a toyota, in japan that is. not good for the rx8. but i am seeing more and more rx8's in los angeles though. thats pretty good i suppose. i would have thought that the 8 would do very well in japan cuz its the only new rotary, but i think most people in japan don't really like the 8 cuz they compair it to the FD rx7.

Toyota? That's confusing, what toyota are they buying as there isn't a sport coupe at all in toyota's line in the US, the celica is barely mentionable and the MR2 is underpowered. That's really interesting, when shoping for my latest car there wasn't a toyota even on the list. Their offerings in the US are really boring, maybe they have something better over there?

of course sales are up now, because everybody's getting insane deals on '04s. Dealerships around my area still advertise "New 2004 RX-8"s as low as $16,700 after rebates, but every other car in the advertisement is a New 2005 vehicle.

This is the last year for both the MR2 and the Celica. Don't know what's going to replace them. so it looks like Toyota may not even have a entry level sports car in it's lineup.

I know that in the US at least, Toyota is trying to steer a lot of their "entry level" buyers toward their new Scions. I've started seeing a lot of them -- all three types.

I imagine every 2004 Nissan, Dodge, Ford is going out the door cheap too. So we're comparing apples with apples here.....

The *8* sales for the last few months are 1/2 of the initial months numbers. 2k plus vs. 1k plus the last few months. We hope the March numbers are 1.5k or better. Would you please give the exact link to sales figures as the BusinessWeek link was quite unclear. aka, you had to search thru idiot friggan aritlcles..

Here's the only article I could find from your post.... MAZDA MISFIRE. Sales of the Ranger compact pickup jumped 15%, while the Escape and Expedition SUVs gained 29% and 52%, respectively. However Ford, unlike GM, is still losing headway in passenger cars. Ford saw car sales drop 12%, with the Mustang and Focus posting declines. Japanese affiliate Mazda took a beating in September. The racy new RX8 wasn't enough to keep Mazda's aging lineup from a 19% sales decline. *Racy*

Concur. If anything, the Mazda product line is getting younger.

Add to the list the new Mazda 5 -- the follow-on to the MPV. Also anticipate seeing the Mazda follow-on (or in addition) to the Tribute in MY07. The concept debuted earlier this year as the "MX Crossport" using the M6 platform and additional SUV mechanicals based on the new Lincoln Aviator.

Bread and butter for Mazda will continue to be M6, M3, M5, and Tribute, which apparently are seeling strongly. Volume on these vehicles is an order of magnitude greater than RX8, presumably allowing the rotary faithful within Mazda some margin to continue developing the rotary product line, even if RX8 sales are off a bit from targets.

I think the 8 is selling pretty good, sports cars tend to sell low (minus the Mustang), and I hope Mazda the best in the future because it's so true...

The Zoom Zoom in their cars really bring that fun factor to the daily driving experiance. My wife was planning on keeping her 6 for a good dacade or so...but if Mazda brings out that (RX8ish looking suv) and they sell it at a reasonable price...I think I might check it out.

Gomez.

Actually. the March Sales are up from March of last year by a little over 100 cars, 4.9% and year to date, 8 sales are down about 1100 cars, off 18.4%. So it was a good March for 8 sales, something they needed after the past few months of selling just over 1k units each month. The real winner was the Mazda3 topping 9k units in sales. source: http://sev.prnewswire.com/auto/20050...1042005-1.html

The fire would have cost sales. I know stock was still on the floor of many dealers, but if buyers in the States are like buyers here, they'll wait until 2005 build plated cars are on the showroom floor. I know I insisted on a Jan 2004 build car when I purchased mine in February 2004.

Someone run by me again how your 2005 cars are built in 2004???? I don't get that...

They're obviously referring to Model Year 2005, as opposed to Calendar Year 2005... though there's hardly any discernable difference between the MY04 and MY05 RX8s

Mazda will go ahead and build a vehicle ala the Sportcross concept based on the Mazda 6 platform for 2006. In an Autoweek interview they said these bread and butter volume sales of 3, 6, Tribute, 5, and Crossover allow them to do vehicles like the Miata. With that said--as long as Mazda becomes more robust and does well financially, we'll see these niche cars like the RX8 and Miata being built.
