RX-8 Production Line Shutdown?
No hopped-up engine or other more minor tweaks are going to be sufficient to kick sales into high gear. All those changes would do is generate a few thousands of sales world-wide to the hardcore enthusiasts. Depending on the pricing increase, it might have the opposite effect.
There just aren't enough customers drooling over mental images of "The Perfect Next Generation RX-8" to make those changes worthwhile.

The factory is not shutting down, in fact the heroic workers are slaving day and night like dogs to meet the insatiable demand. In truth, we have already begun production of the glorious 16X, which will produce 400 horsepower and produce it's own hydrogen fuel from drinking water. Any rumor to the contrary is a lie spread by the criminal gangsters at Nissan. Our assessment--as usual--is that they will be bankrupt within a month. As we speak, owners of the laughable 350z are weeping and lining up to sell their automobiles for scrap.

Any no they are not going to produce a 2 door Rx8. It would be expensive to do and you would still be looking at the shrinking tales lights of a 350z while getting 16 to 20 mpg.
