Is it just me, or have people that don't have 8's becoming more accepting of them over time? It seems less people bash 8's like they used to or at least I don't see or read about it as much anymore... maybe they are starting to realize what we've known all along.

I know what you mean. The other day at work I had to move my car, and the facility manager sent out an "all hands" email stating "whoever drives the black sports car with no brand markings" needs to move their car.

What! I thought you guys knew that SA-D did not need Ad-Blue or Urea...gee that is old news....Oh sorry, NA does not have SA Diesels yet...gee you are backward over there...

As for the Rotary 'hype', IF there was a RWD "option/prototype" about to happen then why would Mazda be bothering to join up with FIAT to make the new ND MX-5?, they need another model or another brand (Alfa) to share production costs with the ND to make it viable.

If there was a RWD Rotary in the pipeline Mazda would not be looking for a platform sharer...now would they.

Ash, I quoted the whole comment, and most of it was regarding the CX-5 Diesel. The comment I highlighted was in response to someone saying that the extra money should go into rotary R+D. I felt Mazda's response to that was appealing and quote worthy.

So it's not just a myth within the company or an uncertainty or the basement project. If people have prototypes on their desks.

^That is great news, I hope further development on the next-gen rotary continues. I still find that replacement for spark plug technology interesting. Mazda may be keeping hush on it, because they are using the next rotary as a test bed for it.

the urea comment was in answer to "tina" who complained in two comments that she didnt understand why her CX-7 diesel(NOT available in the US) needed UREA and didnt know when she bought it and how if she had known the CX-5 wasnt going to need it she would have waited. Of course Mazda are evil bastards for not informing her about her car decision. its not her fault for buying a car without understanding the maintenance it will need.

short version- that urea answer was in response to a diesel CX-7 owner which arent available in the US.

ALFA went to Mazda not the other way around. are they happy to have a someone share the cost? sure. but it wasnt Mazda looking for help- it was Alfa

less cost to develop new rwd platform sounds good to me! share the platform, let Alpha do their thing with their version and put the sky engine and add a new rotary option in the mazda version! :D

The Alfa will be made at Mazda's plant, using the Alpha's engine, body work, and probably Alpha has their own suspension as well. It's pretty much a case of Alpha saying "we want a small convertible again. Lets buy the chassis from Mazda and pay them to build it too!"


Mazda might even make it the most reliable Alpha available






The engine and body will probably still have problems. Electrical too if Mazda doesn't take over building the wiring harnesses.

Hey riwwp. Ya think Mazda wiring is bad, i never heard a lot of proems with the wiring. BUT the elecyrial syuff is anoyher story.

My 8's engine harness was replaced once under warranty Cuzco Wayne found a short in it.

But hmm my fc's wiring is still the original no issues ....

Maybe just **** luck?

Alfa had electrical problems in the early 80's and 90's, mainly because they loaded their cars with everything in that time when the competitors like VW and some others still stayed with conventional stuff like hand operated sunroof vs electrical one and others. They had digital AC in the 80's, and that was big stuff in that time.

But we have one saying here; "You choose Alfa with your heart". Pure fans don't care about any of the problems, just like we don't care about rotary reliability and stuff like that.

Partnership with them and Mazda can not go wrong. Alfa's are fun to drive, have a great suspension stock... There's nothing more to ask for

Alfas are overpriced FIATs right now and have been for a long time.
