RX-8 Carputer on last page of Maximum PC
Folks,
Chris Cardinale's RX-8 and carputer made the last page of this month's (January 2006) Maximum PC.
How much trouble do I get if I scan that page?
Just when I think I may be getting too geeky by planning a PC for my 8!

Why so many bulky, visible installations?
Other than no longer having a rear cup-holder (I'd never let passengers have drinks, anyway) there is no sign of my installation anywhere - not in the trunk, not in the glovebox and certainly not in the cabin.
I keep seeing installations that put the PC in or behind the glovebox or passthrough and it is ubsurd.
You know, they make PCs that are only 5" x 9" x 1.5" these days in the 21st century...

Try one of these:

It will fit cleanly under the armrest.
^^ That uses up part of your rear storage compartment. I'd rather have the space than the cup holder.
Plus, putting it where I have makes it easy to feed the slot-feed DVD drive. I just lift up the armrest and slide in a movie.

I don't watch movies in the car.
Jeff, you said there's nothing visible from your carputer inside the cabin - how about the Xenarc screen that was in the nav tray? Did you replace that with a stealth screen?

My point was that there is no need to hack up the trunk or glove box to make room for PC components.
We had movies going for much of the trip to Arizona over X-Mas. 35 hours in a car is a l o n g time. Niki did most of the watching, I just listened. Mostly Aqua Teen Hunger Force and the Office. A Little Napoleon Dynamite, too.
Jeff, did you install this one:
MP-SC3 Mini P4-Class Aluminum Mini PC

I cannot get their website to work today
Any pics of your install?
Thanks

That is the one. I replaced my Dell laptop guts with this. It is much faster and has a slot-fed DVD drive that is better than the tray type I had before.
No pics, though there isn't much to see as I stated before. All you have is the face of the PC at the back of the center arm rest compartment (where the second lighter jack is) and that is all.
It is under the rear cup holder.
