-787b is just plain awesome
-so much for rear fold down seats with that intergrated V bar in the rear, but upside is we don't have to pay for an aftermarket rear tower bar :D
-rear fog is wierd, it's suppose to cast light on the driver side road line but if it's in the middle.. would it work? is someone going to wire it so it lights up when you brake?
-tilt sunroof? yeeel.. this car is as big as a NSX but the roof is not big enough to slide the sunroof in?
-what tires are they running? Potenza what?
-with the radio volume button in the middle, looks like they solved the problem with the left/right hand drive radio problem (a la g35 with the power/volume button on the right side)
-with this radio design, is aftermarket HU even possible? looks like the face plate is one piece from vent to under the a/c control with the circlar trim.
-looks like they have cloth seats? meaning sport package only? but with an indash cd changer?
-understeering? http://images.rotarynews.com/images/...3/mvc01804.jpg
-aftermarket seats would deactivate both side airbag
-wonder what the G-Tech Pro reading is on this?

787b is too awesome
The following year the rotary was outlawed... cowards! Guess the snooty Europeans didn't like anyone breaking into their club. I'm sure the 787b was a reality check for them.
How about a 475hp 4-rotor Renesis "Mazda NSX" to compete with the Ferrari 360... but priced at say, $60,000? :-) I bet it would sell better than the NSX ever did! Maybe it could be the RX-9, or RX-787...

Well the only review I give a whit about is in. The first of two rotarynews.com reviews has spoken, and it is good. Linear powercurve, the ability to go tail-happy with DSC and great interior room. If Dan Mazzella is satisfied, then none of us have anything to worry about. As a first gen RX-7 owner, I can attest to the imperceptable acceleration. First gens aren't fast by todays standards, but in comparison with other similarly powered cars, the 1st gen glides up to speed. The over-rev buzzer can sneak up on you in a hurry :D
And while I'm on the soapbox, I'm glad to see Mazda return to its roots with the rotary, as a cheap, competitve alternative to world class piston-engined sports cars. I don't need to remind anyone here that the 1st gen RX-7 with its 101hp blew away all the Sports/GT cars in it's class for thousands less than the competition. The 280Z, Porsche 914, Toyota Supra, the Corvette, all of them were beaten by the total package that was the RX-7. It wasn't the fastest, or the most comfortable, but it was the best of everything rolled into one car.
Just like the RX-8.

All: sorry for the delay. Berny and I wanted to make sure everything was correct, and we weren't stepping on each other's feet when posting the two part article.
Coupled with the Race Berny was part of last weekend, plus the fact I hadn't been home in almost 2 weeks pushed the article back.
Anyhow, part I is here now, part two in a day or two.

Yes, thank you, Dan. I especially liked your compare and contrast to the 1st and 2nd Gen RX-7. This is everything I've wanted the RX-8 to be - feel like my long-gone '91 coupe, but better and with more power (and 4 seats!). I, for one, will be very happy, even if the 0-60s and 1/4 mile end up disappointing everyone else.

2-stage DSC sounds pretty cool.
1st stage allows a little wheel spin for lively acceleration off the line, but kicks in should you want it, but forget to engage it during spirited driving on public streets. A full-off switch is also great for lapping/auto X. Good to see it's fairly relaxed in coming on-line, making it more likely sporty drivers keep it on and still have some fun.
I think the car will rock with a i/h/e package. I'm sure not only the extra power would be better, but the sound should be awesome!
