I remember on my old Celica I had Kuhmo Ecsta Supra tires. They were really nice, albeit a bit noisy on the road. I've heard that Hankook makes sticky DOT race tires for both Auto-X and track. I don't know much about the Ventus series. I'm sure they liken to the Ecsta Supras.

as i said, i can host. send me a pm for my email.

i picked the ecsta V700 as a street tire for my autocross car. its an r compound, but stays pretty consistent through its life, works good cold, has a soft sidewall and doesnt track grooves. its ok in the rain also.

the re040 is a good tire when its new, but it heat cycles hard in a year or so. at 17K miles i have lost a lot of traction but there is lots of tread left. so its relatively easy to make a cheap tire of soft rubber thats sticky when new, but then it gets hard and starts to wear slower.

looking at the new 615, but wondering if it is too soft to resist heat cycling.

I recently purchased the Rotary Reborn used. Nice DVD and I thought it was pretty fair about describing the RX-8. I would agree about the low torque inhibiting exiting speeds. Tsukuba has some tight hairpins that might be hard for the RX-8 to carry speed through.
Sad to see it finish 5th out of 6th in the test, but it was up against some decent cars.
