Bernie had I have caught on to the "investigating" part, I wouldn't have thought any more of it. That much I can believe. I am sorry about the way I responded though. I didn't need to be so harsh (I just do that sometimes) and I definitely didn't intend to make Carlos mad. We never did speak about the topic so I definitely am not calling him a liar or putting words in his mouth. I hope he figures that much out. I actually have great respect for the guy.

Ok you take RG, and I'll talk to the boys to get going on SS-9. We are actually close to setting the date; working real hard with Mazda to get it done.

Scoop, we are trying really hard to get Kabura there! It's penciled in at the moment!

I posted earlier that the guys from Mazda at Maz fest were trying to convince corporate to put a rotary in the Kabura.

I have seen the Hydrogen RX8 several times. I read it already went on sale in Japan.

Mazda geared up for GM's anoncement to install 50,000 Hydro stations in the USA.
Unfortunately GM took a dive and the stations didn't materialize.

I'd like to see how it runs on E85.

Considering E85 gives you 10 to 15% less MPG, the rotary could be a big hit with that fuel.

If mazda ever does release another RX7.. SS would be the best place to do it. It could start a riot.

about the engines mazda should know it is really hard for racing teams to be hunting for use engines and 20b are getting really hard to find, not long ago I would normally see 4 to 6 20b s a month, now im lucky if I see one every 3 month

on RX-3 ( or rotary kabura) well I can be a little patient , I just hope mazda gets this right and as soon as posible

AWD 280hp V6 w/ DSG -- nice. If it's under $35k and handles well I'm in!

I dunno, but I suspect engine cooling is more of a problem than with brakes (unless you're in a race, obviously). Also, I think that article is a little misleading when it characterizes the kinetic energy being lost to heat... some of the energy goes to heat, but not all of it (though I haven't studied heat transfer or thermodynamics in many years).

When I saw the article's headline, I got really excited. The Scirocco was a neat little car that I have fond memories of. Then I read the details:
  • Based on the Golf platform
  • Longer than the Golf!
  • $28k for the base FWD model (in Europe... maybe it'd be cheaper here)
Now the AWD version with the 3.6L might be interesting, but it'll be expensive and even heavier. The *base* GTI with the 2.0t weighs 3170. The loaded one is over 3300 pounds! In a FWD car! That's just obscene!

Even assuming they put the 2.0t in the base Scirocco and charge only $23k, why would you buy this when you can get a GTI for <$22k? And why would you buy a GTI? Yeah, the engine is superb, but the chassis leaves a lot to be desired. The RSX-S, Civic Si, and Mini Cooper S are all more fun. The only way you'd see me in a GTI is if I was unable to physically drive a manual (as automatics go, the DSG is the best). Otherwise, why go back to FWD when the RX8 can be had for $23k?

VW needs to get with the program... they should base the GTI on the Polo platform (the small hatch they sell in Europe). Yeah, their cars are pretty looking and they deserve credit for giving the GTI a wonderful engine. But their cars are still way too heavy.

There *is* a much better use for all that wasted heat, and an elegant one at that.

Yep! that's why Mazda need to get their act togeather if they want a sports car.

Unfortunatley if you look at their future line up it looks like they are concentrating on small high MPG cars.

There will be a hugh market. Gas will be $5 soon.

Are you referring to Bruce Crower's 6 stroke engine?

Isn't that what turbochargers are for? How much of the exhaust heat (as opposed to back pressure) is actually regenerated into boosting. When it's not used for greater acceleration, can the turbine charge a battery or capacitor?

Ok, I feel sheepish asking this question, but I couldn't find an answer searching. My friend asked me why they called the RX-8 the RX-8, and not the next RX-7. I wasn't really sure, actually. I assumed it was because the RX-8 is a 4 door, and they wanted to reserve the RX-7 for 2 door. Is that right? Or is there a better reason?

That would definitely be one of the reasons. An RX7 willl never be a 4 door.
Paul.
