rotary future and kabura genesis on rotarynews.com

chek this out http://rotarynews.com/?q=node/view/797
please leave your coments mazda wants to hear from you

However, we recently received word from Japan that the word went out from the top of Engineering saying that the Rotary is top priority at Mazda now, and not to be pushed off the side. The message went on to talk about the history of the Rotary at Mazda, and how some wanted to drop the engine all together. The benching of the rotary is to stop, and it is to become a very intergal part of their future strategy.

and some people where sayng that this is the last year of the rx-8

I wrote Mazda after seeing the Kabura concept telling them I wanted to see it, preferential with the rotary.

As for the rotary being integral to the future: come on 3 rotors, and/or direct injection, and/or all aluminum.

I would imagine that since the rotary is ideal for hydrogen combustion, Mazda would want to keep developing it. I know there are some major technical hurdles to cross before a hydrogen rotary is widely available, but personally, I can't wait for the day that I can drive around in an internal combustion sports car AND be nice to the planet at the same time.

What this means its that the rx-8 its getting an upgrade for sure and maybe we will see a second model with a rotary engine.

The Kabura would be sooooo much better off with the turbo MS6 engine... reliable, fuel efficient, and tons of potential that can be realized cheaply

That is indeed great news... almost made me weep since I'm a new RX-8 owner and have been recently enlightened to the ways of the rotor (I don’t want it to fade away).

I think it would be a good business model for Mazda to offer the car with two engine variants- the MX-3 and the RX-3. The MX-3 would be great for sales/image if they can keep it around $18-20K, and for those in the know... pony up 2-3K more for the rotary variant plus maybe different colors, slight nose/rear cosmetic changes to identify it as the RX-3.

I guess as soon as I pay off my rx-8, I'll be getting this one. I wonder if it will have Renensis 2.0 or something similar with more improvements.

If the Kabura did have a rotary how could it be better if they plan to lower the price.

My $.02:

I just got back from the Mazda Museum in Hiroshima, Japan, and the feeling of pride in the rotary is very strong both in the lobby of their corporate headquaters and in the museum. I cannot imagine that a company that has that much enthusiasm for the rotary, and that has worked so hard for so long to keep it in production, would let it fall away. I think the most interesting possibility for future rotary uses is in hybrids, as demonstrated by the Mazda5 Hydrogen Hybrid. I'd like to see direct gas injection and an electric motor in a fun-to-drive platform like the Mazda3. Applications like these might allow for sustained development of the rotary in sports car applications like the RX-3 and future RX-8s.

Mazda did show a rotary hybrid minivan which means they may start looking at a rotary hybrid powerplant option for some vehicles, kinda like the 2.3L turbo that is making its way into a couple of different vehicles.

The problem with the rotary expense is that they don't use enough of them to justify the capital outlay to find a way to automate the building process. If they could make another 100,000 the cost would drop. It would also likely justify some other upgrades such as an all aluminum design and direct injection.
