restyled RX-8 coming to Tokyo

I don't buy Kool-Aid
I don't know what Americans mean when they say "facelift, not redesign", but how would you describe a car that can be identified as an RX-8, but look nothing like the current car?
What if it it had more than 200 changes? How would you describe the car if it had (nearly) all new sheetmetal?

All jokes aside, a new look. As for that last part, We would call it, in the case of the RX-8, a 2nd Gen.

May have to wait till Geneva, NAIAS, LA or New York Motor Shows next year to see the "new" RX-8.

Booo.... I'm still gonna hold onto my hope of my previous comment of the unmade Mazdaspeed v2 kit (bumber) being the "face lift". That and maybe restyled headlights akin to what the new Mazda6 has.

'freshened'
Is that the 40th Anniversary Model?
Would they show a refreshed when the car will not be available for 7 months (April 2008 is production restart)...remember according to Gomez our Anniversary production Model is scheduled for November/December 2007... then a 4 month RX-8 Halt in production...

I dont care what you guys say, I am hoping for a redesign, ala new generation
and if so I hope they take some design tips from the kabura, the kabura gets some things right, but its bulky in other parts, they could iron it out and it would be the perfect Gen 2 RX8

It's the norm in the auto industry to produce a refresh design after a 4 year lifecycle (i.e. front and rear facias, headlamps, taillamps, some interior touch ups, maybe slight engine adjustments, etc). Then soon after a complete redesign of the vehicle and/or replacement if needed.

I don't know...all the redesigns these days seem to be going in the direction of Ford Focuses. That old new concept has no character in comparison to the current RX-8. If anything major, be happy you have the real thing.

Seems to me that the 2nd picture is exactly that. New nose, hood and headlights. From the front wheel well and back it looks exactly like our current 8. A very plausible "freshening" up that blend in elements from some of the recent concept cars.

Momentum Keeps Me Going
I'll predict:
* no HP increase (sigh)
* revised bumpers w/latest 'Mazda Corporate Smiley Face' protruding snout aka Kabura inc. the big Mazda logo stripe
* updated interior bits w/more content (US) including climate control
* full electronic music/phone hookups
* no weight change (sigh)
If by lucky chance power is up (unlikely):
* power goes to 250Hp (like my original 2004 sticker says)
* rev limit is down to 8K
* torque is up a bit but lower down.
Tokyo only a week or so away...we'll see...

Predictions:
* New bumpers, probably similar to that one indigo-colored concept RX-8. Did we ever get any shots of the rear of that car? I think the rear of the 8 is the blandest part.
* Same headlights, taillights, interior (maybe new guages)
* New wheels
* New optional suspension package--basically the Mazdaspeed shocks, springs, sways...preinstalled, with better tires and different wheels than the regular model to boot. Why they haven't done this yet is beyond me.
* Same engine, possibly with a lighter flywheel
