Just got my issue in the mail today...All I had to say was IT'S ABOUT TIME, ROTARY!!!

Talk about 8 representin! 390HP out of a 3100lb car? SAWEET! Even if it's time is only in the low 13's, that puts is smack-dab in the middle of musclecar terratory! Would LOVE the sleeper appeal of keeping the rest stock, because as we know, no one seems to take an 8 serious off the line, cept those that don't really know what it is...

Curious if anyone here is thinkin about doin this...because I'm startin to think that it might be worth it to buy the kit/chip for $7K installed. Lil pricey, but if you plan on keepin the 8 for the long haul, why not?

Loved the article!

Maybe switch from those heavy 19 in. rims to a set of 18's, and also swap from T1S (which I have) to Falken RT-615's (and maybe go to 285's). Probably drop a .5 sec right there

Yeah, I'll bet this car can get significantly better times since Adrian with almost 300whp got 13.1's.

I'd buy this RIGHT NOW, cash in hand, if it didn't void my warranty.

Hello next MazdaSpeed 8.

I am keeping my 8 for the long hall and will continue to upgrade it over the years. I am very interested in this turbo, but it will have to wait till my warrenty runs out. Also, need to stash some cash for a while so the wife won't freak out and leave me to sleep on the couch. lol

Once again, they ain't makin' no stinkin' 390 WHP on crappy CA 91 octane. I have yet to see anyone break 300 WHP on 91 (please correct me with dynos if I'm wrong).

I believe you could hit 390whp on 91 octane with water/meth injection, and an efficient turbo, which they had both of.

I'll believe it when I see the dynos !

My experience is that we ping at 7 psi at mid-RPMs, even pig rich with a buttload of timing pulled. The GReddy turbo can't be all that inefficient in that range. Like I just said, show me the dynos.

You shouldn't be pinging at all. I'm running 8-9psi now all the way to redline and don't have any pinging that I can hear. There are people running 12psi without pinging. If you hear pinging you should definitely bring your car to a tuner asap!

That dyno sheet posted earlier is befor they fine tuned it, they ended up with some 365whp. Not to mention the is some Puerto Rican person making 400whp with a custom kit. (Pretty sure rgonza said that) So its possible. and both PTP and SFR want to break the 400whp mark. It will happen, give it time.

I just realized that Pro Tech is .6 miles away from my work. I might go up there and have them take a look at my 8, and see if they want to trade a turbo kit and install for my soul?

Your sig indicates you're in Virginia/Maryland. If that's true, then you're running at least 92 octane...probably 93. I'm mixing race gas with my 'genuine California fake 91 octane' to prevent pinging at mid-RPMs @ 7 psi.

Yep, still got the XEDE. I don't see any reason to switch, since we've got complete control of timing and fuel, it idles & runs as smooth as warm butter, and all the systems like cruise control work. The XEDE also has a built in boost controller and extra inputs/outputs for WB02 & etc.

My car is ported, has bigger secondary injectors, and a free flow cat. Shiv spent a bunch of time playing around with the timing & AFRs to get the best we can on the crappy gas.

It is nice & torquey, but can't hold boost up top, probably due to the port.

It was 390 _crank_ horsepower, which C&D estimated. No one actually measured a number of 390 in the article.

Fantastic! Is he going to be releasing this anytime soon, or do you have a gag oder so that you can't say anything?

Shiv's got the wire harness, fuel, mounting, and maps all sorted out. I'm sure he's open to doing more RX-8s, but I doubt that he'll make a full-on 'product' for our car. Why? Mostly because he has more fun & less risk turning Evos & STis into 11 second monsters.

Maybe he'll change his mind if I can get my turbo to hold boost up top & become a dyno queen.
