i hate to say it but i think mazda really muffed this one up. excluding the steering wheel the interior is nice but the exterior....welll.... suprisingly the base model with less aperance stuff looks better then the GT in the front.
Mazda screwed it up: the rear bumper reminds me of an RSX, the steering wheel looks cheap, the driving/fog lights look cheap and they should have stayed round. The side marker lights have chrome around them as well as chrome under the driving lights (you have to be joking Mazda, chrome???). where the front bumper and the front fenders meet, the line goes 'up' (the eye catches this and it looks odd) as opposed to current model where the line is horizontal and has the side marker built-in, rather than added on. The flying M on the front bumper looks like it was melted into it, a very odd look as does the black plastic bar (looks like a fat lip). The new tailights and spoiler look good though.
C'mon Mazda you can do better than this!
Does the new RX-8 come with auto-on headlights, keyless remote/start, auto climate control, and tire pressure monitoring that indicates WHICH tire is low?
Have there been any published 0-60, 1/4 mile and MPG figures yet?

why they cant put the black plastic behind the mesh is beyond me. must be some production or cost issue
the rotary-accented wheels look nice. still not digging the front bumper & the front side vents. the tail lights look like a VW Passat, but are slowly growing on me. absolutely hate the new steering wheel. and, i miss the front & rear rotary accents the most.
No.... lol The Skylines's tailights always looked better and the circles were seperated with body color inserts. I reserve my full judgment until I see them in person but the '09 8's don't quite look the same. I'm seeing some other car's tail lights but can't put my finger on it...
Looks nice,...sort of....
"New and improved Joker products! With a new secret ingredient: SMILEX. Let's go to our blind taste test: Uh oh, he's not happy. He's been using Brand Xssssss! But with new Joker brand... I get a grin, again, and again!
That luscious tan, those ruby lips, and hair color, so natural, only your undertaker knows for sure. Aha ha ha ha ha ha, I know what you're saying, 'Where can I get these fine new items?' Well, that's the gag. Chances are, you've bought 'em already! Hah ha ha!

Check this out! He must have been "King of the Wicker People".
I like it, especially having the back part of the bumper painted and such. I like the front, looks more aggressive and the overall shape reminds me a lot of the FD for some reason, I dig the fender vents too and the other new touches. This car needed drastic changes to keep it fresh, I think Mazda did a nice job of implementing some things here and there that were pretty significant, without taking too much away from the original. I fail to see why people are making such a big deal about the tail lights, they're basically the same just a different shape for the most part, this reminds me of all the people complaining about them being "ricey", to me oem doesn't equal "ricey", only shoddy ill-fitting parts that detract from oem quality seem ricey to me.
The design has grown on me but I'll pass on judgement until I see one in person. I'm actually more interested in the new tranny/gear ratios than anything else. I'm looking forward to test driving one to see if the driving experience is different with the new tranny (ie., a little better off the line). And I'm kinda concerned about pricing. The 8 seems to be a car with very little interest for the general car buying public so I hope they don't go nuts and increase the price by $1000 or more. Keep it close to the current GT range and it will be ok. I'll kinda miss the rotary accents myself.
