Mazda RX-9: Not so rotary

Mazda RX-9 features Mighty Morphin' tire technology and energy absorbent skin...

The Mazda RX-9 is an advanced concept that came out on top in this year’s Michelin Design Challenge. It’s a hybrid featuring a 2.5L V6 and wafer-thin electric motor, but features a couple of technologies not seen before in the race for higher fuel mileage.

That is one hell of a blind spot. Those tires don't look like they would work very well in the rain. And what holds the wheels on?

Did ya read the article? The tires were probably the coolist part. They morph to the road condition and actually "Grow" tread under Snow or Rain conditions. The way I kill rubber, (Corners), I wonder what they could do for me!

Yes. I read it. The pics of the tire in Rain mode did not look like they would work that well. It's just a open space in the middle.

Probably cost about $1k per tire.

I wouldn't doubt that. That much technology in a tire would not come cheap like a set of Kumho's.

Speaking of Wheels, did anyone see the TWEEL concept?
It "promises" possible performance increases but man is it ugly.

edit: couldn't get image links to show anything, you'll have to follow the link if you care to look.

V6? Are you kidding me. Are they off their rockers?

That's not the RX-9, its just what some magazines call it. Mazda calls it the "Senku."

Yea, Mazda would not call it a RX anything unless it had a rotary.

That's not the senku either.
The senku was a real concept vehicle.
That thing is a design/technology concept and it's not the RX-9 either.

Oh.. and this is really old.

-Yup... Not the Senku that was a physical Concept.
-It is only a design/concept in cyber format "as far as I know".
-Yes it lacks the Rotary thus the Title of the thread. Most of us know or have an idea that the "RX" is Japans nomenclature for "Rotary Sport". R for Rotary and X for Sport.. Hence MX, M=Piston & X=Sport and CX C=Crossover & X=... you see the pattern now!!!
Never-the-less, there are several resources that all use the same tag of RX-9 with this vehicle concept that currently is reported to host a 6-popper. I am one for sure to say and know that just cause it is on the internet does NOT make it fact, however; I have seen nothing to the contrary and we "relatively know" from other past articles that the Kabura and Senku were not to have Rotary power-plants. Who knows? I am not saying it IS or IS NOT the next RX-9.

-And Oh... yeah it is an old article that I came across late last year and forgot about like I am sure others did. A freak search turned it up again and after a quick search on the club... I noticed no references to it so I thought I’d share!

-Take it for what it is worth. I think the car design is ugly but the technology is insanely cool, regardless if it is an RX or MX.

It was drawn by some kid for some concept competition or something. Lock this repost before more people are fooled.
